80k checkup suggestions
80k checkup suggestions
Hello!
I have a 2018 LX I bought new and have had all the normal maintenance done during its life, have not had any major issues in the first 80k. I will be paying off the car this summer and start banking my former car payment for maintenance down the road, what should I look out for/preventative replace around this mileage?
Only minor issues are a slight grinding noise at startup and the instrument panel occasionally not coming on/showing gibberish but that doesn't bother me at all.
thanks!

1) Grinding noise on startup, usually cold startup.
- Just the usual VTC actuator issue on cold startup
2) Instrument panel showing gibberish, where it shows the odometer.
- bad soldering. It takes about 2 hours if you are comfortable soldering electronic and less than a $1 worth in solder. Else you can have the dealer replace the whole instrument cluster, like $900 for part + labor.
As for what to expect around this age/mileage:
1. Brake fluid flush - every 3 yrs, regardless of miles
2. CVT transmission fluid drain/fill - every 30k miles
3. Serpentine belt, coolant, spark plugs 100k-110k miles.
I assume the following:
1. Replaced battery once already
2. Replaced brake pads once already
3. Replaced tires at least once already. If still on 2nd set, should check how much tread you have left.
Else just regular maintenance
1. Oil change on the minder
2. Tires rotation every 5k miles
3. Air/Cabin filter replacement 20-30k miles
4. Wiper blades every other years

I agree with everything posted previously with the following exceptions:
"Brake fluid flush - every 3 yrs, regardless of miles"
Drain/fill, not flush. Every 3 - 5 years.
"Oil change on the minder"
Oil/filter change every 5,000 miles and at least once a year - forget about that silly minder.
"Air/cabin filters, wiper blades"
As required. Hard to base this on miles since this depends on many factors and everyone's experience may be different. For front wiper blades you can get replacement rubbers only (from Honda and Amazon) which just slide in and out of the front wipers.
Valve adjustment
I don't think anyone's mentioned this but something to consider when at 100K+ . You can play this by ear, listening for the valves to get noisy or just do it when the mileage gets that high. It's too bad that Honda still has an antiquated valve system that still requires manual adjustments.
