2016 EX-L sunroof leaks

Hey everyone,
I have a 2016 EX-L with nav that has now had the sunroof apparently back up and clog for the third time in about a year, a year and a half. Each time I’ve taken it to the dealership (after discovering here that the likely cause was the sunroof backing up), they’ve found this to be the case and have charged me about $100 to fix. My question is, is this a common issue? I’m really fed up with this happening every couple months after never happening in the first 6 or 7 years of owning the car. I love my Fit but am honestly at the point of looking to trade it for an HR-V with no sunroof since I can’t get another Fit. I am so tired of getting in my car and having the floors on both side be basically swimming pools. I know a hundred or so isn’t as big a deal as other issues but I don’t think I should have to fix it THIS often.

thanks!

Just get unclog it yourself, use like a lyon line(trimmer line for weed wacker) and unclog the drain tubes yourself. There should be plenty of youtube videos on how to unclog the drain tubes.

You get getting clogged due to where you park your car and things got in and clogged the drain tubes.

Good luck

I can't believe they only charge $100. Ask them how they fixed it and when it happens again, you know what to do. On my Lexus, I run a clothes line for this, all the way donwn until it exits. I think trading in a car for this is extreme unless you simply just want a new car.

When I bought my Fit in 2018 I didn't have a list of features I wanted on the car, I had a list of things I didn't want - because they are problem areas in any car - which led me to my Fit LX. These included:

No sunroof.
No turbo.
No push button or remote start - key only.
No low profile tires.
No leather seats, cloth only.
No rear wheel drive, no 4 wheel drive.
etc.

The sunroof is on my list because I saw enough complaints in car forums (many brands) on backed up drainage problems. And an occasional power mechanism failure which was very expensive to fix. In the spring and in the fall a lot of crap falls off trees and lands on your car roof. You have to spend the time constantly checking and clearing it off. If you don't the rain will wash debris into the drainage system where things will get plugged up.

If this wasn't happening before then something has changed. You're either parking in different spots now or the vegetation has grown larger and you're now within range of the crap trees are dropping. Type of vegetation can also be a factor - tree sap makes debris stickier and more likely to clog up.

I'm essentially repeating what fibrepunk and nayov have said. You can spend the time clearing off your roof and cleaning out your drain lines (don't wait for them to clog up) or you can do nothing and continue to make trips to the dealer. If they're only charging you $100 for that then it can't require a lot of effort.

A shop vac with a skinny nozzle does wonders for the drain lines.
