New Hatch Struts

The hatch struts on my 2015 are showing their age, so I looked on Amazon and bought two pairs for $19.95. That's $5.00 per strut. When it gets a bit warmer here, I'll install them on my Fit and put the other pair aside for when my son's 2020 needs new struts.

Looking at Amazon again, I realized that they are sold as a pack of two pairs. Not many people have two similar Fits.

Watch those cheap struts. They won't work very long. And if you live someplace where it gets cold, they may not have enough gas in them to keep the hatch up in really cold temperatures.

I made that mistake (on another vehicle) and fixed it by buying struts from NAPA. They cost more the first time, but not twice as much as the cheapie Amazon ones. And they're working years later.

Consider this a "Test" of these cheap struts. I hope to get a chance to install them next week.

I looked online, but I could not find them on Honda Parts Online. Maybe the Honda price is so high that they're ashamed to show it. 😂

EDITED: It's not a strut; it's a support. $40 each. So, $160 plus shipping and tax vs $21.59. I'll take a chance on the quality. If the ones I bought are no good, I'll return them. I bet I have a stick in the garage. 😋

I bought a different set on Amazon Canada. I have a 2018 and absolutely no need for them at the moment but I am trying to anticipate future servicing requirements. I'd rather sit on spares for a few years so I will have them handy the very first time the hatch conks me on the back of my head.

My previous Camry lasted 33 years with the original hatch struts - and pretty much original everything else. For some strange reason I don't feel confident that I can expect the Honda to do the same. Of course the Camry was made in Japan and the Fit in.... well, Mexico so perhaps that explains it..

At this point, the only time the hatch tends to drop is when it's very cold teens or single digits. Still, it's a long time till April, and I don't want it falling onto my head - again. I had two Civics that I kept for seventeen years each, and I never replaced the struts.

I recently had mine replaced by my mechanic. They were OEM, inexpensive, and he didn't want to charge me labor ( I've sent him 6 friends and neighbors.) It took him 5 minutes and I made him take a 20.

I need to do this. Every year when it gets cold, I think I'll replace them when it gets warmer. When it gets warmer it doesn't drop so I forget until it gets cold again.

It's a quick job. Pick a warmer or sunnier day and go for it.

Funny! Like the leaky roof. You can't repair it when it's raining, and you don't have to when it's not raining.

My rear driver door was leaking. It took me several rainy day attempts to get it fixed. I ordered some adhesive for that plastic behind the door panel. Also used some on the door speaker to get a good seal.

If it wasn't for the peeling white paint, I would be singing praises for this little car.

I have a leak in the hatch area, but all the seals look good. I'll keep checking. Of course, if I cleared out my garage, the car could go inside. 😊

Seconding to stay away from Amazon. I used to do thousands in work (40-70hrs book time per week) for dealers the last couple of years and Amazon/Ebay had a fail rate of 40-50% within a year.

Most of the stuff is Chinese - and if you knew how bad they screw consumers you would try your best to swear them off. Reputation was trusted for a reason...

That being said- RockAuto is your best bet- dont shy away from the Ultra -Power parts there. I just bought some stabilus hatch supports for my 2015 after failure and they perform quite well, despite the early failure of Honda supports. Stay chipper

Mine just failed all of a sudden and it's a warmer winter day. I won't go with OEM, that's for sure (2015), probably a set from Rock A.
