3rd Gen Idle Air Relearn Procedure

Hi all, recently doing some work on my 2015 Honda.

Finding at times idle leaves a bit to be desired- especially with AC. Looking to see if anyone has any input regarding the idle air learning procedure before I continue more work.

Methods tried - clear pcm. Let idle for 10 mins nothing on, radio etc. Didn't work.

Found a YouTube video that said key on, wait 2 sec., idle to
3000 for 5 min. Idle for 2 fan cycles, then AC on for 3-5 mins. Still hasn't registered as idle air being learned and correction learning never seems to settle. May need running vac/cyl air flow test but before I go there I want to see if there's a work around to set idle air. Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

you may have a scan tool that can reset the ECM but have you tried the old trick of disconnecting the battery for more than 5 minutes to reset the ECM then doing the idle relearn? I can’t remember how long you are supposed to let idle. It’s either 5 or 10 minutes. Good luck.

Allow engine coolant temp sensors 1 and 2 to just about equalize temperature wise (usually in the 200 degree F range, +/-5 degrees).

Turn the car off, key on w/ engine off then either clear DTCs or do the ECM/PCM reset.

Follow that with allowing the vehicle to idle for about 5 to 10 minutes without ANY loads (A/C, lights, radio, **nothing** aside from the scan tool) then wait for the idle learn to complete.

Also... check your DBW stuck ratio as well. Ideally, you'll want it at 3% or less. This pid lets you know how much carbon build up and gunk has accumulated on the throttle body as well as can affect the idle learn and throttle response. Simply spray brake clean or throttle plate cleaner on a rag, wipe down the throttle body's bore and blade (do NOT spray in throttle body as it washes out the grease in it's pivot pin) and follow up with a ETCS (electronic throttle control system) reset in the PGM-Fi special function or reset tab.

Do this in tandem with the idle relearn and you should see improved/sharper throttle response.

Definitely a DBW stuck ratio then by the looks of it. I've been just straight spraying it, seen it at high as 88% but no real other issues. I'll see if it's repairable. Thanks for the input, should have this taken care of now.

Bit of an update. Took the TB out and cleaned it then greased. Found the middle gear between the throttle flap and motor itself had binding on the shaft holding it. Cleaned all related areas then used berrymans TB cleaner & lube. No stuck DBW ratio anymore! Thanks again for the input!

What's the greasing procedure? Do you have a link? Thanks.

No link. I took the cover off the side removing the 6 torx bit security screws. T20 IIRC. Gear is pictured here in the middle. Made sure not to alter position of the motor. Flap was easier to attenuate this way also once disconnected.

Found some light dirt - dark inside the bore of the gear. Sprayed with MAF sensor cleaner until clean then used berrymans throttle body cleaner and lube on the bore. Cleaned and lubed the pin also.
