Recharge Ac With Condenser Replacement. Do I need Pag

Ive searched countless times and there is not a good fit video or info that I can find. Figured I’d come here and ask as everyone is super knowledgeable and friendly here. I replaced radiator and ac condenser. I evac the ac through the shrader valve on low and high ports then disconnected the lines going to condenser. Installed everything and now I’m trying to figure out if I need to add pag oil. I did not replace compressor, just the condenser. I know it takes 134a but I can’t figure out the correct capacity. Some google searches say 8oz some say 16 and 24oz. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Generally when replacing anything other than compressor I may add 1/4 to 1/2 oz of PAG to the LOW side port (suction) just to freshen things up a little. Most of that sits in the compressor anyways. Don't forget to vac then let sit for 20 mins and check for leaks.

For filling get 3 12 oz bottles. Super cheap at local parts stores nowaday. I think mine took 2 and 1/4.

Pro tip is to vacuum down and then attach your can and revaccum to clear air out of the now can to low side line. Do dozens of these every summer man. Good luck to you.

ok will do I appreciate you. To confirm.. So add half oz to low side port first, then vacuum down for a couple hours. Let sit make sure vacuum -30 is still there. If so no leaks and then add 134a. And you’re saying roughly 2 1/4 cans. So a little over 24ozs of refrigerant

1/4 oz - 1/2 oz. I err to the smaller not the greater - kinda wing it. And no, you don't need to pull vac for hours. If it's been sitting in humidity, half an hour should be fine. Close all manifold valves to end vac process (not valves on high/low side ports) and then turn off machine. Let sit for 15-20 mins. My harbor freight only reads -28 Mercury at full vac so long as it doesn't move more than 1 psi after 60 sec and 1 psi off of that after 15-20 mins later, you're good to go. You'll see if it's leaking or not. Condensor is pretty hard to screw up connecting. Good luck
