Thoughts after EX test-drive

Hi,
6'2" 45 yo male here. Looking to replace my 2005 Scion XB soon.

A few personal thoughts after the drive in case it helps anyone-

Looks better than pictures to me. I do think the older ones look cooler though.

The gas tank bump in front of the drivers seat kept me from keeping my foot where it would be most comfortable.

The CVT paddle shifters seemed kind of worthless compared to other CVT paddle shifters I have tried in more powerful cars.

Love the refresh mode seating arrangement- you could watch a movie on the dash screen if youtube streams from your phone.

It cornered flat and confidently at speed.

On the freeway it isn't as darty as the older models, but probably the worst thing about this model, imo.

It was quiet enough for me on the freeway.

At 70mph it was just under 2500rpm if I remember correctly.

The lanewatch on the screen was cool, seems like it is a helpful thing.

Loved the sunroof.

Seat was comfortable to me.

Overall it felt solid, not tinny.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it.

Toad

I have the same issue with the bump but will adjust to it.

Just drove an EX-L.

More thoughts off the top of my head-

This time it felt like the seat didn't go back far enough for me-

It seemed VERY loud on the freeway- almost obnoxious.

Looking throughout the car it seemed like it was very scuffed up everywhere- not necessarily dirty, it seemed "used" almost.. only had 20 miles. It was weird.

They had a couple silvers, a red and a black. The black looked best on the car of those colors, in my opinion. It would look downright awesome lowered an in or two. The other colors look good as well though. Can't wait to see all the colors in the flesh.

At slow speeds around town it has a fun feel.

The leather wasn't all that...

Lotsa of your first impressions have a share of both positive and negative.

The great thing is you took the time to actually drive them and only after, make an honest assessment. We humans are all different but when one takes a first hand experience and gives his take, that has to be respected.

What pains me are a whole bunch of others who insist on putting the GK down and they haven't taken the time to experience it first hand.

Good job for your honest and, now, credible interpretation of a 2015 Fit!!!

Thanks Rottboy. I might of missed it, but did they give you a date on when your white manual would arrive?

Me a date??? LX manual??? I might see my puppie in 2015!!! LOL!!!

Put down the order in Feb. and have relegated myself to patiently wait for what I should have gotten when I bought my GD 7 yrs. ago. A manny tranny.

Aside from pulling off my numerous double-shifts, the real reason I hesitate to go to the dealerships and test drive the new GK, they only have CVT's in stock and I know myself too well. Am gonna end up shelling out the big bucks and upgrading once I touch that wheel. If I do that, the wife will certainly divorce and that would cost me way more. LOL!!!

I also now have purchased all sorts of add-ons to equip an LX. They would all go to waste if I end up with an EX.

To answer your question - no news from my dealer on any VIN, yet!!!

Haha, that is cool.

What add-ons have you bought? I wish we could see pics of aftermarket wheel choices.

All posted on the "What mods for the GK...." thread plus a bunch of others and their plans. Very interesting and am learning a lot from them.

Got myself a set of Enkei's. The wheels of the GE will fit the GK. Bolt pattern and offset are exactly the same - according to my retailer and, now some others who have posted availability of GK non-OEM wheels.

This shopping of mine is pissing the wife off. Especially since I don't have the GK Fit yet. She said why not put them on the GD in the meantime. Oh yeah - like stick on the i-vtec dohc on the GD. Nah! I think I can wait.

BTW, can I venture to guess why you all in WA. like the GK?? Its like Russell Wilson! Pintsize car for a petite sized quarterback. Man, that guy can throw, you lucky people!!!

Let's talk about Bluetooth, specifically about hands-free link. I noticed on http://automobiles.honda.com/handsfreelink/ that you can check phone compatibility with the hands-free link system on all of the Honda cars.

Checking compatibility for the 2015 Fit, the results were kind of disturbing: certain trim levels of the car had more phones compatible with the system than others. Specifically, the LX and EX-L with navigation trim levels had the most compatibility. The EX trim level compatibility was very lackluster. Why is this? I know it says to check back for additions if my phone isn't listed, but I'm a little baffled at the inconsistency of the listing.

I have a Samsung Android phone, and needless to say, it wasn't listed as compatible. I checked other cars like the 2014 Civic, but that had the same problems as the Fit; only the LX and EX-L with navigation had the full list. But on the 2015 Pilot, my phone was listed on all trim levels.

This is kind of disturbing. What do you think about all of this?

Bummer, I use a Note 2 from Samsung. Maybe someone else can chime in on this topic. I've never used Bluetooth in a car.

I have the exact same phone on AT&T. And since this will be my first car of my own, I obviously never used BT in a car either! While the seemingly lackluster compatibility on the EX trim isn't a deal breaker, wouldn't you rather know for sure that you're able to talk hands free while driving?

Ideas and suggestions about this matter, anyone?

I can't comment on which phones will work but the Iphone works pretty flawless for me so far on my EX-L. Control right on the steering wheel to call hangup or redial. Microphone Is placed by the screen on display and doesnt appear to have to yell to communicate. Bluetooth immediately connects to my phone soon as I am in range and I can select to play music from it. Once tethered you no longer use the bluetooth but it becomes an ipod in essence. Not sure if this answered your questions, if not ask about specifics and I will see if I can answer them.

That's terrific news about the backwards compatibility of wheels! I assume the same style of tire pressure sensors are also used, or do I have to upgrade those?

Did you get these Enkei wheels?

That's exactly how I felt when my wheel supplier guaranteed the fitment. He said that the only thing different may be the center hub but he will easily replace that if needed.

As for the tire sensors, GK uses the indirect method requiring no TPMS sensors installed on each wheel. No nothing needed!!!

Nice wheels you have there but got a black colored set in a different style.

Read somewhere that of the cheaper alloys available, Enkei's and Konig's have the more stringent mfg. process, plus their finishes are a grade higher. Almost bit the bullet on the Konig Forwards but decided on Enkei's instead.

My wheels arriving before car??? Never done that before.

OMG! You ordered the wheels already? Nooooo! I'm jealous. I want to order the Enkei's now myself. 15's though BUT looking to see if 14's will fit on the LX CVT. If so, searching for lightness there. Really excited about your purchase and wondering how the center will fit. *sigh* This is KILLING me now knowing.... Good luck! Can't wait to see them on your car (when you get it).

Still waiting for an LX CVT to show up in my area.

The Enkei Racing RPF1 wheels only weigh 14.6 pounds in the 17x7" size. They're 13.7 pounds in 16x7" size and, if you must have 15x7" wheels, they're only 9.5 pounds each!

I don't think you'll clear the brakes with 14" wheels. Even if you could, they would look pretty funny with such tall sidewalls. Here's a shot of the 15" wheels on the "old" Fit from Tire Rack's wheel buying tool:

Maybe 14" or 15" wouldn't look so bad if you got them in black.

Being the Diamond State, a quick drive to the neighboring localities might solve the delay in the LX CVT arriving at your local dealer. Definitely you'll find a bigger dealer in Jersey and Maryland. Surf the net and if you need help, PM the Cars.com guru Tcroly.

Words from the wise. This will totally address the "looks" and Mplyx can have the 14" to further reduce his objective of lessening unsprung weight.

Ah yes, this FF forum. Once again, a source of positive ideas!!! Thks DZ!!!
