Dealer add on crap

Dealer add on crap
Finally had a chance to drive a couple of Fits yesterday and today.
Drove a 2013 Sport at 1 dealership yesterday, and drove a 2015 EX at a different dealership today. Impressed with the ride and handling for a little economy car. Pros and cons on both, but honestly I think we could be satisfied with either year. Although in the 2015 we're leaning towards the LX, if/when one shows up locally.
Here's what ticked me off. Yesterday the 2013 had about another $1,000 in "dealer add on's" to bump their price from MSRP of $18,800 to $19,8XX.
Today we drove the 2015 LX. They had $1,274 worth of "stuff" added on, taking the price to $20,299. (Pro Pack, Nitrogen Pack, Trunk Tray, Mud Guards, Wheel Locks, Visor) Might actually be 200-300 worth of value in that.
Do people really pay for that crap?
Clearly I need to find a dealer who has one in transit in the trim level and color we want and buy it, noting specifically not to load it up with useless stuff.
NOTE, I'm not really looking for advice here, I'm just venting!

Dealers love to do any sort of shell game they can to add profit. They make $500 on the car and if they make an additional $200 on chintzy tack-ons they can. The only defense is to be willing to walk out of the showroom and wait for a car to arrive that can be sold to you unsullied. Many people aren't and this perpetuates the practice of tacking junk on.

Mine had tinting (I wanted) had mud flaps (I wanted), had pin striping (Did not want), had Nitrogen Pack (Did not want), Trunk Tray (I did want), and had Wheel Locks (I could take or leave).
I did not pay for the tinting, nor the pin striping or Nitrogen Pack. The other stuff I paid wholesale, not retail on. They thru in 4 free oil changes for me, and that's it

Absolutely. The ADP, ProPack and Nitrogen Pack are especially trouble prone!

Mine added crap too
Mine added crap too. Just laughed at the add on. Told I don't want the add on's and hold no value for me. Use costco buying service as a base line and go down from there. They offered an a high price 24000 out the door. Said WTF. Did my research offered an out the door price 21500 for EX-L. Which includes everything. They tried to do the wait and see what we can do act. Said I have to pick up my kids and left. 1hr later got a call let's do it. OK price for florida taxes are 1400 plus new tag fee. I
had to have a car. They left the tint , mud flaps, trunk tray and pin stripes on.

I was lucky back in 2007 I got the car for $17,000.00 out the door with no extra anything just as it was delivered from Japan. I would walk in and tell them the color and package you want and tell them when they get it in, to call you. Just stand your ground and say you don't want all those added items. You can get many of those items on E-bay for a lot less than what you will buy direct from the dealership.

Yep, the dealer who has the model & color we want does this too. Told them that not only does a different dealer not add on the nearly $500 "dealer fee", but also will order us what we want, but they'll knock $300 off MSRP. So now they are offering us free add-ons we wanted anyway, "$800 value" but works for me!

Dschiri please help me out here. I am also in Florida and want to negotiate a good deal on an EX-L fit. If you got an out the door price of $21,500 that seems like a great deal. If you paid MSRP it would probably look like:
MSRP $19,800
DESTINATION $790
TAX (naples .06) $1235.40
REGISTRY FEES $ 250.00 (GUESSTIMATE)
TOTAL $22,075
YOUR PRICE $21,500
DIFFERENCE $ -$575 DOLLARS
Did you get $575 off MSRP and then not have to pay any of the dealer junk fees like documentation fee, processing fee, and the craziest one the preperation fee where they charge $695 in Florida. Did you have a trade in? Thanks.

I have a different method
First I understand the dealer holds all the cards. They know exactly what they are paying for the car. Dealer invoice in not their actual price! <br />
<br />
Second the longer your at the dealer the more your at a disadvantage. <br />
<br />
Third they like to confuse the deal. Follow the KISS principal. Keep it super simple.<br />
Always talk out the door price. Make sure they understand this. I drive this home by saying "I don't care how you price it 1 dollar for the car and 19,000 dollars for dealer fee. I want an out the door price which includes everything taxes fee everything!"<br />
<br />
I do is my research ie Edmunds and cars. Last I get fiance from third party credit union (CU). Don't let the dealer get involved. Honda rates is 2.9 percent GTE CU is 1.94%. The dealer adds a lot of fees in the finance process. One dealer had a 700 dollar loan origination fee which wasn't on the buyers order. <br />
Get a signed buyers order.<br />
Only bring a check. If a problem comes up. Walk out.<br />
Expect to walk out of the dealer. <br />
Remember they have over 2 months of production waiting for delivery. Supposedly delivery problems. They are going to have alot more cars arriving every day. That's how I approached buying a car

I paid about $14000USD for my Fit base in 2007 and I got the showroom model because they sold them faster than they got them. I paid about $22000USD for my 2012 Civic Si. There is no way I would pay almost that much for a Fit. What happened to the Fit being the B-series entry-level car?
