Tire Pressure Sensor Works

Hi gang,
Well, it looks like the tire pressure sensor works. I picked up a nail somewhere in the POS SoCal highways. Tire pressure came on yesterday night while I was on the freeway. Drove home (no shops were open to check tires).

Drove over to tire shop this morning (tire was not visibly low), but pressure measured low. It was a nail.

Guess my Fit has been baptized. Looks like the tire pressure sensor system works.

That's great news!!! Indirect system is less cumbersome as the direct format with its individual sensor in each wheel. Those things are a PITA!!!

I'd hope it works. Be kind of pointless for them to go to all the trouble designing the system then putting it on each car if it didn't work.

I havent read up on the TPMS yet, does it inform you of the tire that is low or just that you have a low tire?

Sounds like that wasn't too bad! What I hate is that first little parking lot door ding or bumper scuff mark on a brand new vehicle. Those really, really hurt.

Tire pressure dash icon. It just lights up to show there is an issue, but does not indicate which wheel.

I am glad it is sensitive enough to alert to a problem while there is still plenty of air in the tire to get where you are going. I had this in the 2009, and it worked there, but had the in tire pressure senders. This new system may be more robust since it measures a secondary parameter: differential tire rpm. actually that data could be tagged to flag the offending tire. C'mon Honda. Put this in version 2.0 of the OS.

I find it hard to believe the 2015 is using tire speed instead of actual in-tire sensors.

The systems that measure tire rpm are a PITA. Uneven tire wear and mixed-matched tires flag false positives .

Ah kinda sucks it works that way and can't tell you individual wheel pressures. I know some GM cars from over 15-20 years ago that did that.

Could be a pita though. Getting out and trying to figure out which wheel is low and then if the system malfunctions how do you fix it etc.

But its a compact entry level car so oh well

Hopefully the Fit has already been fixed by my 13 Accord has the same type of sensors and I was having issues with the light coming on when there where not any tire pressure issues. Turns out there was a TSB for the Accord and the dealer updated the software on Saturday. I hope that fixed it.

Remember, the TPMS is there to comply with the government mandate brought on by Ford and Firestone's tire screwup. All they care about is satisfying the mandate without getting too many customer complaints.

Not if the system is designed well and can be recalibrated by the owner if things go out of sync. I'd much rather have this than an entire additional system of sensors and receiver that is subject to tire-changing breakage, dead batteries, and the hassle of switching sensors if you keep winter tires on another set of wheels.

Frankly I'd prefer no system at all because I know what a soft tire feels like and check my pressures regularly. If I must have a system I'd prefer one that doesn't make make a tire store my nanny if I want to mount a tire on a wheel without a sensor!
