no car yet, just ins quote
2015 lx cvt-american family ins. just under $500 for 6 months coverage. 100/300, roadside assistance and rental coverage. $1,000 deductible
61 years old, no accidents or tickets, credit score over 700. also includes discount for having house also insured with them. single car,one driver, chicago suburbs. i personally think its high for this car.

I'm not sure that posting rates for comparative purposes is going to really be of much value. There are such an insane number of variables which go into the rate that comparing one to another for different people is going to be apples/watermelons. Age, accident history, ticket history, specific coverages, how far you're driving each day, whether you have a defensive driving course, where you're specifically located, multiline discounts, how long you've been with the company in some cases, and quite a few others that I can't remember now. [[edit: and deductibles -- a big factor]]
All of that said, my insurance actually INCREASED just a bit when I traded the 2011 Sonata GLS for the Fit EX. The Sonata (when new) is a more expensive car so I assume this might have increased due to some combination of maybe the new having a higher absolute value than the 3 year old Sonata, and/or the larger Sonata being perceived as the safer car in an accident. Actually neither of those really make much sense to me, but I have no other ideas. Maybe someone who is in the insurance industry can clue me in to what's going on.

My brother and I just got insurance for the vehicle. We got a spin off plan with Allstate, as we were on my dad's vehicle plan.
I think we're paying like 700-800 something every 6 months, for the two of us. We have no accident or ticket history whatsoever, he's over 30 and I'm gonna hit 30 next year.
Does that seem a little steep?
I honestly know jack all about car insurance though, honestly.

If you're in California, I know the OP isn't, you can get rate ranking for a few standard models at the ca.gov insurance site.

About $950/year with 100/300, etc., which I thought was amazingly low given I haven't owned a car in 35 years. But also no tickets, accidents, and I have a very high credit score.
My original plan with Geico was $1460, but I switched after a couple weeks to State Farm where the agent could also insure my condo and the auto coverage was identical.

I'm currently insured with USAA. 25 years old, single, flawless driving record. My coverage are as follows:
50k/50k bodily
50k property
1000 comprehensive
500 collision
$480 for 6 month policy. Breaks down to $80/a month for full coverage on a brand new vehicle.
BTW, if anyone here on this forum has an insurance related question, please feel free to contact me. I worked for State Farm (amazing company!) as an insurance salesman while I was in college. I had my insurance license and the whole nine. =]
