Height adjustable seat belts, and hood?
Height adjustable seat belts, and hood?
Well, not a height adjustable hood, of course.
I have a 2006 Civic, which I love, except for two things. I was planning on buying a '15 Fit, but there are a couple of things I need to know.
First, are the seat belts height-adjustable? I'm 5' 2", and that's with long legs, so my seat belt just lays right across my trachea. I was surprised the Civic didn't have them, and didn't even think about it at the time. So, does the Fit have them?
Second, I can NOT see the hood of my car. Not any part of it. Which means I really can't see the corners of my car, or tell how close I am to things. I know the Fit has the same sloped hood, but I'm hoping that, because it is a smaller car, and the speedometer is not raised, that this might not be such an issue. Are there any shorter folks here who can answer that?
Thanks!

I know you can adjust the height of the seat, which I will be jacking way up since I'm 5'3. I do not want a seatbelt lying against my trachea as that is probably ensuring you will break your neck and die in even a minor accident.
In terms of the hood, that is really the trend with new cars. It just slopes down and you can't see it. Just know kind of how long it is. When in doubt, don't pull up that far. You shouldn't need to pull up that far in parking spaces anyways since the car is so short. That's why I love paralleling in a small hatchback!

There is a lot of height adjustment available. I'm shorter than either of you, and with the seat cranked all the way up, I sit reeeaaaaally high.
Two related things that are good wrt the height adjustment:
1) The shoulder strap adjustment + height adjustment means the belt lays where it should. To taller folks this may sound like nothing, but it's the best seatbelt fit I've ever had! No tugging/readjusting or cutting into my neck.
2) The head restraints are really steeply angled forward (typical of new cars). When I was trying out different seat positions on short drives, I could see/drive safely with the seat in a lower position, but the head restraints felt terrible on my neck (pushing my head forward). The seat adjustment tilts the back of the seat up more than the front, which means that I get high enough for the head restraint to hit me where it should, which is great for safety and comfort.
Lastly, the Fit has a teeny tiny super-sloped hood and a really long sloped dashboard. I don't think anyone tall could see it either! Tall people feel free to prove me wrong.

Thanks all. I did get to sit in one today, and am REALLY happy to say that it does have adjustable-height seat belts. Really, I don't know why *all* cars don't have them.
And, yeah, I could not see the hood at all. Well, a tiny strip of it, because the wipers are lower than my Civic's. sigh. Knowing where your car is in space is a really good thing.

acter, how was the test drive?
I'm 5'7" and I have the seat height cranked all the way down. I can't see the hood either. I never really noticed that until you guys mentioned it
Next time I'm out, I'll crank the seat all the way up and assess my vantage point then.
I don't get a low to the ground feeling in this car like I thought that I would, either. And I'm still having a heck of a time gauging curb distance because I'm used to parking an Accord, plus I'm worried I'll curb the wheel so I always over compensate for that.
