But...but...but...I don't want to get rid of her...
But...but...but...I don't want to get rid of her...
I've been drooling over the new Fits for a while...They have everything that I saw "wrong" with my 2010...a sunroof, a bit faster, a sunroof, bluetooth for road trips, a sunroof, a bit more legroom, a sunroof...the rest of the other new stuff is just neat...a sunroof, the keyless unlock and start, the sunroof, the better (IMO) looking interior, a sunroof, better gas mileage, a sunroof...112,000 less miles....did I mention a sunroof?
I wanted that Graphite color....finally found it tonight...An EX and an EX-L...The Leather in the EX-L didn't wow me, sure leather is sexy and all, but....meh...not $1,600 sexy...not sure if I am getting CVT (which the adult in me wants) or the stick (which the teenager in me wants), and the dealer is going to check to see if they can get me a stick...
But there she is, sitting, perfect color, a sunroof, shiny new paint, a sunroof, all the bells a whistles, and a sunroof....
Then it dawns on me, my baby, named the Silver Bullet, would have to go....112,000 miles and I have put dam near every single on of them on her myself. Replaced the battery at around 100,000, brakes at around 75,000, she just runs and runs and runs. I have a lot of really fond memories in that car...Daughter's first camping trip, her first Red Sox game, buying her hamsters, driving to bury and replacing said hamsters...picnics, road trips, shooting matches, breakups, heartbreaks, happy occasions, interviews, late night rides home from airports, the list goes on and on. That car has become a part of me.
I'm not sure I'm ready to let her go.
Although that sunroof sure is sexy.

be loyal
lol!
Is it paid off? if so hang in there a while longer and see how these early models fare on the roads....
I for one want to see how the leather and cvt holds up, if it has enough little touches besides the obvious changes, and how the Quality holds up over a year.....
right now I'm between this, a mazda3, or a Kia Forte5... the fact I'm looking at cars in other classes is a testament to how my 09 punches way above it' weight class.... my tachikoma is a freakin winner!

Santiad- I looked at the Mazda 3. Great car. Faster, fun to drive, but it seemed a lot smaller to me.
I've driven 15 different cars in the past month. The Fit is the best car for me. It does everything I need it to do and does it well. I've looked at $35,000 200's from Chrysler, Tacomas, Miatas, Mazda 3, 5, 6 and CX5, Accord, Civic, Civic SI, Outback, CrossTek, 500L, 500L Trekker, New Beetle, Dart GT, Cherokee, Kia, XTerra, Cube....the list goes on and on...I can not find anything with the space, the mileage, the relative comfort (It's not like my Audi A6 was, but then neither are the repair bills), the reliability as a Fit.
The main reason I want(ed?) a new one is that I started a new job back in December and I have to commute 2 1/2 hours one day a week and bluetooth and the roof would make the ride more pleasurable...That and I'm making a significant amount more that I have in a while, and, well, want a new car...Also, there is a remote section with no cell coverage I go through and the thought of getting stuck this winter, well....112,000 miles is 112,000 miles....
The Fit holds me, my 13 1/2 year old Border Collie and my kid and all the associated crapola with ease. The left side of the rear seat is always down and there is a dog bed there for my pup.

I'm adding a new one to my 2012 Sport and my 2007 Sport. The 2012 is going like a top. The 2007 has over 100K, was totaled in a Texas hailstorm and is going like an aged top.
I'm pretty nervous about the new one, but the daughters need the others.

I have similar feelings about my 2000 Golf TDI, with 227k miles... I have both that and my '15 Fit EX .. long story I won't get into how that happened. But, I know probably within the next year, I'm going to have to let the TDI go. I just dumped a ton of money into it, so would at least like to make it through another winter and recoup the expense. Is 112K miles really that much? Seems like a young pup to me, just broken in!
Do you REALLY love that 2010? It's not giving you any problems? I say keep it and ride that sucker right into the ground. The 3rd gens will still be around -- and most likely by the time you're really ready to buy a lot of the kinks people are reporting here will be resolved.
I was facing a similar dilemma with my 2002 GTI 1.8T ... I loved that car so much but there was so much wrong with it -- no ABS/traction control, broken cat, bad suspension, tires ready to go, brakes already going, oil leak, coolant leak, broken inside door handle, drooping headliner. I was looking at several thousand dollars of repairs. But even with all that, I still got the tingle when I fired it up and esp. when I mashed into second or third gear -- even on our last day together. God, that car could pull.
Simple economics dictated my decision; if that GTI was in better shape I would be driving it home tonight, no question. Your decision is more visceral. Good luck.

Don't forget...Sunroof electrics can and do go haywire. If you are lucky, they will fail with the top closed. My 2010 Camaro sunroof did that. Luckily, closed.
Good point...
Short answer, I bought a 2015 EX CVT. I think it was a mistake, but I'm not sure.
So shortly after my original post, my beloved 2010's check engine light came on, figured out it was for routine maintenance. Also needed new tires. So all in all, I was looking at about +/- $1,300 for an older car with higher mileage...was it worth spending that money? Looking back, I think it was.
Went to the dealer, all they had was purple, which isn't for me, or black. This was back when they first came out mind you, so there was slim pickins. I hemmed and hawed ALL day, almost bought a Civic Si, decided the Fit was better for me. I didn't want black, but there was nothing else around.
So, here we are, a bit less than a year later, 22,000 miles on my 15 Black CVT. The 15 is superior in every conceivable way. I love, love, love the sun roof. She's a bit faster, I get 40+ mpg without any effort.
I still miss my 2010 a lot. The 2010 was one of my all time favorite cars. It handled like a go-cart, the 2015 is much smoother, much nicer to drive. To a point where it's too nice and too smooth...I liked the go-cart feeling.
I despise the black. Absolutely fargen hate it. It is awful. That damn car is never, ever, ever, ever clean. Ever. It makes my self diagnosed OCD cry and tremble.
Pretty much daily I think of trading the black in for a silver 5 speed to see if that helps make it fun again.
The 2010 was a part of me, the 2015 is a mode of transportation.

Many of us get emotionally attached to our cars. They take us through different chapters in life. Ensure that we go on new adventures. Represent us to the outside world. It's difficult not to have sentimental feelings.
I have owned 12 cars in my life (three of them at the present moment), but saying goodbye to the other nine was always difficult. It's for different reasons; reliability concerns, life changes, an itch for something else, etc. but it's never easy. I can feel your pain, after 112k miles, on how tough it would be to go separate ways with your old Fit. It's a matter and balance of what made sense financially, and emotionally, at the time.
I wish you many happy years and miles in the new Fit, and when you eventually look back on this new car, you'll think of all of the good times in it as well
