Some questions about new Fit
Hey all. I just got a new LX automatic and have a few questions:
1. When idling, the chair would vibrate a little like every half second in pulses. At first I thought it was the speakers' bass but it's the engine humming. Is this normal? Not very strong and only really notice if I pay attention to it and sit back snugly against the chair.
2. How to break in the engine? I don't see it mentioned in the manual and the Honda faq (not specific to the Fit) says don't push it hard for the first 600 miles and not much else. The sales guy said not to change the oil until the dashboard says so at 15% oil life or so.
I read some general advice saying not to keep the rpm at a constant rate for an extended time but how on earth would you do that on a highway? Even in the city it stays under only 2k rpm even, and any higher it sounds like the engine's roaring from a stop which feels like I'm pushing it. I sometimes shift to S gear to rev a little higher up to 2.5k rpm
3. All maintenance is done according to when the Maintenance Minder on the dash tells you aside from changing brake fluid every 3 years? This almost sounds too good to be true lol.
4. When shifting to S or lower gear going downhill for braking, is there a speed limit? My old Maxima's manual stated a non-highway speed limit or else risk damaging the engine.

When coasting at low speeds (particularly on uphills) I find the Fit dropping speed pretty quickly without braking in D drive and I find myself staying on the gas a tiny bit to slow down more predictably. Should I be concerned about drivers behind me getting surprised by this? I dislike drivers who lose speed quickly as if braking even though they're not myself.

2) Vary your rpms as you well as you can. No relining for at least 500 miles and enjoy.
3) Follow you Maint Minder light, do what it indicatesyou to do and your car will love you for it. Look for my thread explaining Maint minder and what the different indicators mean.
4) drop it on S mode when you want the ECU will not let you over rev the engine.
5) best I can tell you it is related to your CVT trans and is normal.

15BlkPrl pretty well nailed it.
If you don't do much driving, you should change the oil annually if the maintenance minder hasn't asked for an oil change sooner. That's in the manual.
Obviously, there are some maintenance items that the minder doesn't cover. You do need to keep on top of things like worn out tires, wiper blades, light bulbs, exhaust leaks, etc.—the sorts of things that are periodic maintenance, but not scheduled maintenance as such. Depending on how dusty the air is where you are, you may also want to change the engine and cabin air filters a little more frequently than the maintenance minder indicates.

I see you also have two 2015 Fits - Black and Silver. We have the same thing here, but both are CVT.

The Fit seems to coast pretty well, much better than the Cube CVT I traded for it. I plan ahead, and I can coast for quite a while. It doesn't coast uphills very well, though.
Don't be tempted to put it into neutral to coast better.
You don't have to baby it. As long as you drive it reasonably, it will last a long, long time. My son traded his '97 Civic with 302,524 miles for his Fit.

Thanks all. I'll look for the thread on the maint minder. I'm just about to hit 100 miles usually under 3k rpm, so will hit the highway to vary it more. Never thought it be so exciting driving a car, just gotta get used to the coasting.

I've got about 700 miles on mine, and I don't think it's gone over 3,000 RPM. I drive for good mileage.
