See https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/general-fit-talk/4114-new-car-rituals.html for several views on break-in.

I have been unable to do a quick oil change - NO OIL FILTERS. I'll change it as soon as I find one.

Get the car start it up and let it completely warm up to running temp. Pull out on to a decent length of road. never taking the car over 1/2 of the distance of redline get the car up to 4th gear. Start at 2,000 RPM. Full Throttle up till 1/2 the distance of redline and then let it decel in 4th gear back to 2,000 RPM. Then to this same procedure for each 1,000 RPM over 1/2 the distance of redline until 3/4 the distance of redline. Then drive it for about 25 miles and then pull the car over and turn it off and let it cool down. This prodedure is making sure the piston rings are propperly set. Now for the first 500 miles you will drive it so the engine never goes over 1/2 the distance of redline. The next 100 miles up to a total of 1000 miles on the engine you will add 1,000 RPM after evey 100 miles put on the engine, but never going past 3/4 the distance of redline. Once you have mad it to 1,000 miles you are able to start driving it as a normal car and allowing the engine to comepletely free rev all the way to redline. I would suggest keeping the Break in oil in the motor that the factory provides that is already installed in the motor until 1,000 miles. I would have the engine oil and transmission oil flushed after 1,000 miles to remove all metal shavings that will be in the oils. I then would change again at 3,000 miles so that you have all shaving removed to your best knowledge.

Remember that is it critical while doing the engine break in that you very the RPMs and do not use the cruise control. You want very the load on the motor at all times.. Most city driving simulation even on the highway...

I have it listed as 1000 miles... It is a three stage break in for our race cars and motors
