What brand and grade of gas are you using? 87 or higher?
I get gas at costco 87.
in 2004; my brother and I had a EP3 civic si.
at the time, we thought putting 91 in it would be better... we did that for three years... long story short, i think we threw a lot of money away doing that...
the EP3 now runs 87, and we seafoam her once a year. Runs really well.

Im using 87 Octane from name brand places, Top Tier if I can find them. Zero issues after 20,000 miles and the first 8000 by the previous owner were prob junk gas from cheapest places around.
I tried 89 but noticed zero difference in the way it ran or MPG.
I have noticed fairly consistently that gas bought in PA gives me better MPG by about 2-3 mpg than gas in MD.

I was running Marathon gas primarily for the first 18k miles. Until I had to get all of my fuel injectors and fuel rail replaced. Now it's all top tier gas. Less stutter and most importantly, no dashboard warning lights coming on.
I guess they mean it when they say Top Tier!

Ive expiremented here in Ca, and after 12k, in 7 months on the odometer, i stick to unocal 76, 91 octane, as much as possible.
I suspect that the variable iginition timing shit is the reason my butt feels a difference, especially in the warmer weather.
Mind you, i drive rather hard, 6000k shifts every chance i get... too each his own though right? Ps, i still manage over 30mpg, in largely city traffic.
Ps, i like these forums.... im a bit old skool when it comes to the honda forum thing. Happy to be here tho!

I have two source talking about top tier gas:
No Reason Not To Use Cheap Off-Brand Gas - Business Insider
Is Cheap Gas Bad for Your Car?
It basically said that the gas won't make a difference.
But then again, in my area, I don't see there's any price difference between top tier gas and "common" gas.
On the side note, I am looking for gas station that has decent gas reward program:
Cumberland
Shell
Mobil
Does anyone know which has best gas reward program?
Note: I don't want to get a Credit Card and prefer to pay cash (seems cheaper).

Kroger does the same thing with Shell too. Also they sell gift cards that give you quadruple points so you can get more points than you normally would.
ah okey~
So basically Shell has good reward program.
But in my area (CT), I can save 10 cents more if I pay cash. If I use their reward program, I have to pay with credit/debit card.
Dang it X3
But anyway, thanks for the info. I am currently trying several other gas and see which one do I get most mpg for the moment.

What is your reasoning for choosing e0?
I've been buying top tier e90, but this last fillup I bought e0. After 120 miles, I'm not noticing any difference in mpg. If I can find it cheaper, I'll give the fit one more e0 tank (just to make sure all e90 was flushed out for a better comparison).

I had switched to top tier over walmart back in March, I did see an improvement but now it makes me think it was just from coming out of the cold weather because that definitely affects mileage.
We take advantage of the Winn Dixie/Shell combo, but the wife always uses the fuel perks since it makes more sense to get the discount on her Pilot's huge gas tank, rather than my tiny Fit tank.
Since there are direct injection engines....are they going to run into carbon fouling issues?
I mean, we had a mini cooper...and carbon fouling was rampant with them even though mini didn't want to admit it and it all came from the engine being direct injection.

I keep track of my mileage on every tank and have run somewhat less than half of the time on premium (93 or 91) and half on 87.
Premium - 3550 mi - avg 36.17 mpg, $0.0848 per mile
Regular - 4500 mi - avg 34.62 mpg, $0.0717 per mile
This is actual measured mileage, not what is on the gage.
Using premium obviously costs more than regular.
One very noticeable difference is that the gage is much more accurate when using premium - actual mileage is usually within 1 mpg less than gage mileage; when using regular - actual mileage is usually around 3 mpg less than gage.
The knock sensor does know the difference between premium and regular.
Subjectively, the car does seem to run better with the premium. I drive the car hard sometimes and hit the redline on a regular basis. It makes the commute (Stoplight Grand Prix) to work more fun. It is amazingly quick for an econobox.

marathon is not top tier? They are a name brand gas not some local carry out gas. So. Which companies are top tier then?
