To share the blame of gasohol, add in politicians (both parties) and the farmers of the corn belt states. The pols don't want to give up votes and the farmers don't want to give up their subsidies. Did you notice how the pols pussy footed around the subject during the primaries?

I could get "pure" gasoline here if it weren't at a premium and if were closer to hand.

Yes, depending on if its 100 percent gasoline you should see better mpg but you might lose a little torque. Ethanol E10 gasoline is not bad if your using the car all the time. If you are not using it all the time phase separation could happen and E0 gas would be better.

If your using non top tier you might need a fuel injection cleaner added with every oil change.

I've seen this post too many time and I just have to ask, what the heck are "s2k" spark plugs? Brand and number for an S2000 Honda, right? Hotter or colder than the plugs that come in a GK Fit.?

BTW, I'm not a complete paraplegic, but I'm missing my right foot, amputated at the ankle to correct a birth defect. Most of the cars I've owned over almost 60 years of driving have been manual shifts, the EX Fit is a 6 speed. Used to drive a hand control Ford pickup to take a man who was getting Lasik surgery so he could take his wheelchair into the doctor's office. He drove himself other place, depending on myself to move the chair in and out of the truck.

Don't eat all that popcorn we need it for ethanol!!!

00-03 s2k use ngk iridium on step cooler than 09-13. I know nothing about this concept on a GK but in japan they run the cooler plug because of cleaner hi octane fuels. to run cooler plug u must run 93 top grade or you engine will detonate.

Interesting banter in this thread...

Anyhow, to stay on topic, I use Shell or Chevron 88 octane, or Costco 91 octane. The Costco's around here only have regular (85 octane) and premium.
I stick with those partly because of Top Tier, partly because of experience. Only once in 25 years of driving have I felt that I got a "bad" tank of gas from Shell or Chevron. I get Costco when it's convienent; the discount makes the premium cheaper than mid grade at other places.
Most stations here have three grades: 85, 88, 91. A few places have four grades: 85, 87, 89, 91.

Costco gas has a lot of alcohol. Lower tier gas. I told my mom to stop buying that crap. If just driving around town just us 87 (85 out west huh?) wow. The west must have shitty gas especially when you going up in altitude). But if doing road trip pump 93 (I bet u guys on left coast get 91 huh?) to help clean all that carbon and turn the econ button OFF to get up to speed faster on on-ramps or passing (Especially on 2-lane roads.) traffic faster.

I think you may to re-think your assumptions. The main requirement for "top tier" gas is that it contain AT LEAST 9% ethanol and that the marketing company pay the membership fee. The extra cleaning benefit from "Top Tier" is from the ethanol requirement.

It is all a marketing program to convince people that ethanol fuel diluted fuel are better.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid and you will love their "Top Tier" fuel. Around here Costco is "Top Tier" (E10) so I stay away from it. I can not say it is the same nation wide.

I live in Germany and the lowest grade available is 90 octane. When I was in the USA I used 87, choosing anything higher is a waste of money for a naturally aspirated economy car.

Where I live E10 is the only thing available. There are novelty E0 pumps but the gas in them is usually stale and they charge 2.99 / gallon.

E0 hiway mileage

Just got back from a weekend day trip in my '09 Fit using E0 89. K&N, Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20. I got 39.3 mpg calculated on a 365 mile trip half of which used I ran the AC, Windows down rest of the way. I keep my speed about 75 mph. I don't have cruise control, wish I did, my one regret, should have bought the Sport. Tailpipe is still squeaky clean, 81290 miles.

i just filled my gk with Shell V-Power. very first time using premium in my fit. at 30,000 kilometers now (18,600 miles). i usually do a Lucas upper cylinder lubricant and injector cleaner every 3rd tank or so.

one thing ive noticed, is how i cannot keep the oil clean for the life of me. i even get it changed between intervals, and it always seems black. all my other cars dipsticks are always like canola oil .....

Engine stays clean longer if you use high octane gas. That is the ONLY benefit.

91 to 94 Octane(force of habit from the Civic SI) -- Sunoco, Shell, or Petro Canada only.

How, same amount of cleaners and cleaning additives in all grades. Placebo affect.

I think it's an imaginary benefit.
