I use 87 octane, because I bought this car to save money. If I use anything more expensive than 87, then i end up spending more than I did with my Mini, due to it's significantly better fuel economy over the Fit.

I tried Shell 93 for a tank and it ran worse than the Shell 87, so I'm staying with 87

So first tank of premium I noticed a significant difference in the way the car drives.

ON regular gas, acceleration with the ECON button ON can be uneven and lethargic.

With premium and the Econ button ON and the A/C ON, the car accelerated strong and smooth and ran as good or better than the car normally does on regular with both the Econ button and A/C OFF. My MPG was near the higher end of 43 on the car and about 2 to 3 mpg less in reality. The difference between indicated and reality fluctuates between half a gallon and 3.5 so I dont know that that is much of an indicator

2nd tank of Premium (BP 93) is in and still running strong. Will go back to 87 on the next two tanks and see if the performance noticeably drops off.

Who made them the arbitrators?

The US list is rather extensive and includes companies of which I've never heard.

Express Convenience Stores? Does that include Mapco Express or Delta Express which pepper Middle Tennessee. One of them sells the BP brand, the rest seems to come in their own tank trucks. I've been using them extensively over the past 25 years in several different autos including two Civic coupes (EX and Si) and now the Fit.

Essentially, who watches the watchers?

You're lucky. I really wish we had the option to get E0 in our area.

Get the Pure Gas app. You might be surprised that there are options nearby. Or just check out Pure-gas.org and punch in your area. The app is just great for road trips.

How much is it with 10% Ethanol added? Probably worth the difference.

2.99 x 0.9 = 2.69, you know, for the 10% less gas you're getting ha.

To each their own, but if I can help it I like to get the better gas mileage

It basically said that the gas won't make a difference.

But then again, in my area, I don't see there's any price difference between top tier gas and "common" gas.

On the side note, I am looking for gas station that has decent gas reward program:

Cumberland
Shell
Mobil

Does anyone know which has best gas reward program?

Note: I don't want to get a Credit Card and prefer to pay cash (seems cheaper).
I just filled my Fit for the first time yesterday, so I can't comment on Cumberland Farms gas mileage yet. I have been using the Cumberland Farms Smart Pay to get .10 off per gallon. This program circumvents the credit card network that surcharges even for debit cards. It's linked my checking account and uses a smartphone app to log in and select store and pump. I noticed no ill effects in my previous car when I switched. They are not listed as a Top Tier Brand, but this is their claim on the CF website "You can drive confidently, knowing that each gallon of our gas meets the most stringent EPA standards, as well as all auto manufacturer requirements."

In the past I have worked for gasoline retailers as well as a petroleum equipment dealer (build and service gas stations). My experience is that the more reputable convenience store chains that sell unbranded gasoline buy their fuel in bulk from any of the top brands available in their area. One month it might be Sunoco, the next it could be Shell, etc. They buy based on the best price on the market when they need it. This way they can deliver a premium product without the oversight of a major oil company.

Knowing this and the fact that I have maintained many of the stations in my area, I have a good idea where there is crud or water in the tanks and who skips on routine maintenance like filter changes, allows me to buy "off-brand" with a fair degree of confidence.

I contacted Honda and they recommend 87 standard. They said that higher octaves could damage the engine. Who knows.

The only time I've seen a benefit to using a higher grade of fuel is in hot weather,
the slower burn (At our compression ratio) from the 92 octane will give slightly cooler head temperatures and often help pull that mountain pass in 90 degree plus weather.

FYI I have very close ties to the fuel industry locally and pretty much all gasoline comes out of the same bulk tank, the "octane" is adjusted by the additive package as its pumped into the delivery truck. To make it more fun, there is only 2 bulk storage storage facilities that deliver to all the different branded stations..

For those that like to mix in a little race gas,,, your throwing dice, some street and race fuel mixes will net LOWER octane than you started with because their additive packages blend down not up.. run race gas or run street gas.. and stick with 1 tune.

true, it is more resistant to pre-ignition so you wont get spark knock and the ECU/PCM wont have to retard timing. As far as causing damage to the engine, I doubt it.

just wasting your money if you are putting higher than 87 in these things. you will get no benefit, even in hot weather.

Shell 95 RON, though I have put 98 in on occasions.

Maybe the 98 is slightly better (power and economy) buy how much of that is me looking for it and how much is real I don't know.
