New Alabaster Silver Fit

I picked up my EX-L with Navigation tonight at Bobby Rahal Honda in Mechanicsburg, PA. I got 48.7 mpg on the 21 mile trip home. My trade was a Prius so I'm accustomed to high MPG, and I am not disappointed considering there is no hybrid battery on board. Hopefully I'll have more time tomorrow to figure out all of the gadgetry.

Congratulations on a great purchase! My middle daughter is in love with the Prius, so I will be interested in your comparison. Her big Sister just got the new 2015 Fit, so when she is a Junior in College, it will be her turn to get a new car. I would love to sway her to the Honda family, but at this point, I'm afraid she is firmly in the Toyota camp.

I loved the Prius. I got amazing MPG out of it (50-70 always) over the 125,000 miles I drove it, however I had some problems.

1. Cheap interior. I had the Prius model 4 (2010) with leather and both front leather seats came undone at the seams. The passenger seat was empty 99% of the time (it's a commuter car) and it came undone too. The cheap plastics scratch easily. The rear center seat belt failed and I could no longer put down the rear seats because of this.

2. Oil consumption - This car was losing a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Tail pipe was clean, no leaks, it was just consuming the oil somehow. I bitterly complained (0W20 synthetic is EXPENSIVE) and Toyota said it was normal. It would be out of oil when the 5000 mile maintenance reminder came up on the display if I wasn't careful. Toyota went to a 10,000 mile oil change after I bought mine....I would have killed the engine if I wasn't such a wonk about my cars.

3. Paint - My Prius was black. This paint was the worst paint I have ever encountered. It would scratch to the metal practically by just looking at it. The car looked like a 20 year old car within 2 years of purchase.

4. The seats were uncomfortable for my wife. She has polycystic kidney disease and she found riding in this car a trial. We tried different seat covers and nothing helped. She finds the Honda much more comfy.

5. The comparison to my wife's 2008 Honda Odyssey, which has 140,000 miles, was eye opening. The Odyssey is just starting to feel broken in. Everything looks and works like new. And my family is hard on cars. That van still looks and runs as fresh as the day we brought it home. That says volumes to me.

Also note that the Prius is a target. Republicans seem to hate them and assume I am a communist or something just because I drove one. People like to damage them in parking lots...it's been keyed, dented and dinged a number of times. I drive the speed limit or 5 above the limit and people pass me honking and giving me the finger.

Now the good stuff about the Prius. 125K miles on original brakes, it was comfy for me, never failed me once. It's a technological marvel.

She probably won't regret the Prius purchase, to be honest. They're great cars. I just decided I had had enough.

Thanks for the Prius information. My wife had a Toyota Corolla (1982 I think), and it also drank oil. I kept it full, after we sold it to our neighbors daughter, I heard she burned it up.

We also have a 2007 Honda Odyssey, and I agree with you on it's qualities. Having said that, both my daughters learned to drive with the van, and it's body shows it. I can identify which daughter put which dent where. My wife won't let me have it repaired, because our 15 year old son will be learning to drive this year, and if experience is any indicator, we will be seeing many more dings.

Enjoy your Fit. We had the 2008 model, but prefer the new 2015. Many refinements with the current version.

We now have three Hondas....the aforementioned 2008 Odyssey (EX-L), a 2011 CR-Z (the property of my 21 year old son), and the new Fit. Our 4th car is a 1998 Saturn that won't die, which is my 17 year old daughters now (it was my sons).
