Help - Odd Twang sound at 25mph
#21
Yeah, that probably is a long shot, the doors should lock somewhere between 10 and 12 mph, unless there's a malfunction, which I guess is always possible.

I tested something today. I watched the speed when it made the noise and it was right around 23-24 mph, just before reaching 25 mph. It will only make the sound one time per trip. When I reached a red light, I decided to find out if I shut the engine off and turned it back on if it would reset whatever is making the sound. Well, sure enough, the light turned green and I drove off and just before reaching 25 mph, it made the noise again.
Whatever the noise is, it occurs just before reaching 25 mph (40 kph) and it is reset when the engine is shut off. I initially thought it may have been something on the exhaust line when the metal reached a certain temperature, but there was never a consistency with the water temp on the SG II when the noise was made. Speed is the constant factor in when the noise is made, but I still have no idea what it actually is.

Doors locking is very loud and noticable. The subtle sound from the back of the car as others have reported is very distinct. I'm betting it is some sort of calibration function. But for what system?

Did you ever figure out the twang sound? I hear it, too (LX 6mt), but not every time. Your observation of it only happening once per trip is interesting. I'll have to experiment with mine to see if I can reliably replicate the sound.

That's why I don't worry about the same type of sound in the Fit. Ive had other cars with ABS, but didn't make the sound. Maybe related to the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution feature as a subset of the ABS? Not sure when that feature became more common in the market...
