New member with a question or three

Hello all. Chris from Fresno, CA.

Interested in getting rid of my 08 CR-V and getting into a 2015 Fit.

I have a son who's severely autistic and he has a giant German Shepherd service dog. I've seen the Fit in person in the showroom while my wife was buying her new Pilot a few months ago.

I know I like everything I've read about it and everything I've seen online and in person. What I'd like to do is get our dog into it and see how he fits with one rear seat folded down.

Anyone else travel in that configuration with a 100lb dog?

Anyone know of a car rental company that carries the Fit? I'd like to rent one for a few days to see how it works with my usual crew. I doubt the dealership is gonna let Argus flop into a new car and shed everywhere just for a test fit. He was a little muddy from the dog park when I took this.

Thank you in advance for any help/advice/comments/ that you can provide.

Chris

Not an expert of any kind, but if in your position and seriously interested, I'd bathe and brush my dog, take a virgin drop cloth or tarp and my dog to a Honda dealer, express my interest, and see what his interest in selling a car produces. As an added plus, a mild sedative from the vet might assure keeping a lid on things. If I were the salesperson, I'd try to score by helping out in any way possible.

I would try too. You will never know if you don't. I cant see a reason why they would not accommodate you and your Crew!

Thanks guys. I guess it isn't too much to ask. I would call first and get it cleared.

Not for a few days but you can come to Frazier Park (I have a cabin there that I go to once a month) and see if your usual crew would 'fit' in my son's '15 Fit. My son would not mind at all because he loves dogs and he's planning to go to a vet school this fall. He just graduated from Cal Poly with an animal science degree. PM me if you are interested.

I have a good friend who is the director of a fairly small summer camp/conference center. They operate on a shoestring budget and rely on volunteers for most everything, including the speakers for events.

He was telling me once about a time they had a fairly well-known speaker come, and there was someone who was rather surprised and amazed that they got this speaker. My friend explained his secret methods to me. He said, "I'll tell you how we did it: I called the speaker up on the phone and asked him."

In short, it rarely hurts to ask nicely. The worst they can do is say no; but you've given them the chance to say no for themselves, instead of saying it for them.

my pup is about 95# and he fits in with the seats folded down or up just fine. Down has more room. With the 40/60 split seat and the 40 seat with a passenger and the 60 seat up or down he fits just fine. I first started with the seats down but now am using the seats up cause I like the way that works out better.

I also use a moving blanket to keeps things cleaner.

Brilliant! I will call the salesman we dealt with a few months ago.

Thank you.

So the dog rides behind the rear seats most of the time now? I'd pictured Argus in the back with the 60 seat down.

I think a combination of a call to the salesman, a clean dog and a new moving blanket just might work. Now to sell the 08 CR-V!

Originally I had the rear seats folded down now the seats are folded up (theater style) so he is on the rear passenger floor with a dog bed.

With my previous GD, had my boy (130 lbs.) and girl (110 lbs.) going to their weekly beach romp. Never got anything for the seats but did put a big blanket on the floor with the rears both up. They loved the Fit (GD). So easy for them to jump in and out.
Same now, and I bring them everywhere in the GK.
This time, installed OEM rear seat covers. The neoprene-based material is easy to clean and hair doesn't adhere as much as to the cloth seats. If only Honda would make the same thing for the front seats, it would be perfect.
As for the carpet, the rear OEM rubber mats are nice looking, but inadequate. Ordered Husky's which should be here in a couple of weeks. It should suffice as the coverage appears to be excellent.
Will post my opinions soon.
For now, I'm convinced all Fits were designed for canine owners!!!! Two big or five small ones!!!
