Indeed, I noticed that but my VIN is 17 characters long and I bought my car a month ago...so I'm sure there have been some sold relatively recently with that issue.

I just came back frome the dealer and they checked this. They said if the pillar has the SRS logo then it is fine. The incorrect pillars dont have this logo. I bought my Fit in July and it was fine as far as this recall goes. I did have to get the updated bumper recall though.

Go here and create an account. You'll get recall notices there, you can store your radio code there once you determine it, you can record your service there, etc. Pretty nice.

This is pretty old news.

The reason for this is because Honda produces the same car with different levels of quality and safety features for different markets. Cars for the 3rd world don't get the side air bags so Honda can't put the SRS markings on the plastic covers. It's very likely that the covers are identical except for the SRS marking.

I'd wager... no.

An A-pillar cover without an airbag can be more securely attached to the pillar with (additional) screws and/or clips without needing to move, ever. A cover for an airbag is designed to essentially get destroyed (or at least, MOVED out of the way) when the airbag is deployed.

My A pillar does not have the SRS logo and it's a November build. Is this really they way to tell if it is under the recall?

You can enter your VIN on the Honda Recall Page to see if your car is affected.

Even with airbags, the pillar covers are quite secure. Do you think that Honda would spend money on re-engineering the covers for the third world vehicles to make them fit more securely?

Aren't all VINs 17 characters?
