oops....N to P

I had the Fit on Neutral and it rolled ever so slightly....the brakes don't work since the car was not on, and I put it in Park to stop it, when I should have turned on the ignition and the brakes would have worked then.

I hope I will be okay?

The brakes should work whether the car is on or off.

Hmm.....brakes didn't work in my case. Maybe I had to pump it....not sure.

If someone cares to try putting the key into the ignition and to the point where it allows you to shift to N, and apply the brake...please feel free and let me know.

The brakes will work, but since there's no power assist it takes considerably more force on the pedal. The handbrake will also work regardless, and since it doesn't have any power assist the feel will be the same.

The steering is the same way, for that matter; you can steer, but it takes a little more force because the power steering isn't active.

You should be OK. It would be obvious if you broke something in the transmission. Of course, that doesn't mean you should make it a habit to shift into park before coming to a stop.
