Where are all the Fits???
#161
I talked to a manager at our local dealer today and he said that the Fit is not being made in Mexico any longer. He seemed to know what he was talking about, but they didn't have any EX-Ls in-stock.

It's a sales manager's business to give the impression that he knows what he is talking about. Looking at the overall view, Honda tells their dealers precious little about their strategic plans.
Seeing as how the Fit is also marketed extensively in Latin America I doubt that the Celaya factory will stop making it. It's more likely that the US will continue to receive Fits from Japan since the factory there is already producing the safer JDM variant with side air bags, etc. Celaya will likely concentrate on the stripped variant for Latin America and HRVs for the US.

Fit numbers have taken quite a spike, up from 65 to 208 in a 75 mile radius of my location in SoCal in the last couple of weeks.
Only 12 of those are manuals with only three 2016s.
The manuals and EX-Ls continue to be built in Mexico, everything else in Japan.
All of the '16s are Japanese except for the EX-Ls which are Mexican.
Still not terribly plentiful as they are spending only a few days on the lots, but definitely better.

I'm just fishing for data on Cars.com. They show a reasonably good sample of what is coming down the pipe with serial numbers so I can figure out if they are mexican or japanese.
I can understand no manuals coming off of the Japanese line, but it seems strange that their flagship model is the only one that continues to be made in Celaya.
Perhaps they produced a lot of low-volume cars and stockpiled them in Celaya and they are now trickling them out? I'd hate to think that EX-L buyers are getting cars that have sat on lots in Mexico for months!

No, I'm too honest to work for Honda or a dealer.

Personally I don't think so. Holding any standing inventory in any business hurts the pocketbook. Also anything standing for long would likely need to be serviced. Like when you have a car sit for months in the garage, the battery drains and tires get flat spots. Dealers cant sell cars like that off the lot haha!

Maybe they didn't want to source the leather seats from a Japanese supplier, or ship them from the existing North American source to Japan, given the low volumes involved?
#168
Are the '16 models going to have an overall lower number sent to the U.S.? My son is getting his driver's license and I am going to be giving him my '15 Fit in summer of '16 and planned on getting a '16 Fit for myself.

If the first character is a "J" it is from Japan, if it's a "3" it is from Mexico.
Now you're an expert!
Fit numbers are up to 278 in the sample area. 16 are sticks, 166 are LXs

The number of Fits within 75 miles of me on Cars.com has broken 400! The two nearest dealers to me now show a stock of seven (!) of the color and trim I want, so perhaps they might deign to cut the price a tiny bit. The way they've been acting lately you'd think that the cars were Teslas!
Of the 403 Fits shown, 269 are LXs, 97 are EXs, and 37 are EX-Ls. The EX-Ls are Mexican.
393 are CVTs, 10 are sticks. Seven of the sticks are leftover '15s and the others are Mexican production '16s. Four of the ten are yellow! Not good news for stick lovers!
White is the most prevalent color, with black and silver close behind.
I find it interesting that they would continue to produce the "flagship" EX-L in Mexico. I wonder if they built up inventory and are importing them "as needed?"
Any any case, the drought is pretty much over. They're not as plentiful as Civics, but the customer base isn't as big for Fits. There are only 145 HR-Vs within the same radius and that seems to be the car the dealers are now lusting after.

1. Bring up Google Maps on you iPad
2. Find Mexico City and head north to Celaya
3. On the south side of Celaya find a big Honda plant
4. Outside the plant see parking lots absolutely filled with bright shiny new Fits
That's where they are.

Here in the Northwest corner of WA state there are 37 2016 Fits on the lots of two dealers whose service area is about 160,000 people. 19 are LX, balance EX with 5 of them being EX-L. I cannot discern the VINs. Blue is definitely the predominant color with only 2 red, 2 black, 3 white, & 3 yellow up here

Only five days later and the number in my sample area has jumped from 400 to 500!
Ummm, you do realize that those aerial photos aren't live? In many cases they were taken over a year ago.
Celaya is irrelevant in any case, since new Fits are now coming from the Mothership, with the exception of EX-L models.

@Fit8175 may actually have been there. In another post he reported that their winter residence was only about 35 miles away and was wondering if they do tours.

Big First!!
Wow, I just saw a TV advertisement video featuring (exclusively) the Honda Fit in Atlanta Georgia. First time! Ever!! Has the essence of common sense (at least for some of us) finally eroded a hole in the boiler plate of conventional wisdom (advertise the cash-flow items only)? Still haven't seen a whole lot of GK's around here, but I'm an optimist, and a very happy 2015 EX driver.

Wow, that would seem like an exotic invasion around here! But I definitely am seeing more GK's in recent months.
