So Westie pioneered solving this issue with his thread:

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/3rd-...long-rant.html

Long story short, the sound is related to a poorly designed transmission mount.

Using Westie's experience as ammunition, I've taken my car to the dealership at which I purchased it, took a drive with a tech, showed the tech a printout of Westie's thread with his posts highlighted, and left my car behind for a day for them to scope it out. As a result, they've ordered a replacement transmission mount which will be installed probably within the next couple of weeks. The real trick will probably be applying felt pads to the mount to act as sound deadening to remove the cracking/clicking/popping noise which is a result of metal shifting against metal.

Just thought I'd update y'all and thank Westie for establishing a precedent that enables us to get this issue handled (for those of us bothered or sensitive enough to notice it).

Yeah, I agree.

I took mine in for a punctured tire. I asked them to let me take a test drive with a technician while it was there. They agreed. However, due to a misunderstanding the tech drove the car without me and, of course, didn't notice anything odd about the transmission.

As I was about to leave, the service manager and service writer asked me if the "unusual sound" was right in the clutch pedal mechanism. I said no, it was more like a creaking in the transmission mount when under high torque.

Right away the service manager told me he understood. They are aware of this issue with new Fits and have already repaired several under warranty. I have an appointment for the end of next week to see if they can get mine resolved.
