That makes at least two of us. Maybe a wider shot and some text would help.

"Engineering genius or miscalculation?"

I'll go with engineering thoughtfulness. There are so many things on this car that are so well thought out.

Thanks for telling us. I'll go with styling and engineering. The last car I had (2008 Suzuki SX4) the passenger side wiper extended a little beyond the edge of the glass, not by much, but just enough to be noticeable. The Suzi was a good little car, but they didn't catch the little details. Honda still makes mistakes, nobody's perfect. Even million dollar Lambo's have faults.

It's simply a way of getting a little more vertical coverage by the wiper - you'd be amazed if you were to stand a Fit windshield straight up. It's pretty long!

Having every part of the blade always touching glass isn't important. Having it long enough to clear the glass you're looking through is. Losing an inch of overhang in the park position means losing an inch at the top and bottom of your field of view. Positioning the arms differently would be even worse.

Honda did it on purpose.

Such is life when your windshield is taller than it is wide. I'm sure this was the best solution to getting maximum swept area of the wipers.

Except I've been experimenting with that gap, and have filled it temporarily. I don't have enough time with it yet, but first impressions are the wind noise on that side is significantly less if I make it look like the drivers side. Not sure why it was needed to begin with...
VW's have a service position to change the wipers, but then tuck under the hood cowl out of the airstream to reduce wind noise and mpg (which having the wipers out of the way actually makes a significant difference)

I've been trying to figure out why the wind noise on the passenger side is so bad compared to the drivers side, which is at least tolerable.

Extending the cowl to shield the wipers in the parked position is low on my to-do list. It is on the list, though.

It's more for snow accumulation than wind noise, though. So it's way low on my list.

How about: Tradition?

Our GD has a cutout area on the trim like that, as well.
