Uptdate on Honda coverage of bumper defect
Uptdate on Honda coverage of bumper defect
Hi fellow Fit owners,
Today, I spoke with the Honda warranty folks and explained my concerns about the sag in the front bumper assembly on my 2015 Fit. They said there was a "campaign" to get this fixed, and if this proceeded, I would get a recall notice based on the VIN I provided them. They also gave me a case number for tracking. The person I spoke to did not have any information about whether or not Honda has changed the mounting system on the 2016 Fit.
I would strongly encourage everyone to call or email Honda about this issue and demand corrective measures. Maybe it's just a cosmetic concern, but if the mounting clips fail while driving, would the whole assembly fall off and cause a wreck? Plus, it's obviously a manufacturing defect and Honda should do the right thing. If enough of us pester Honda, maybe they'll do something. Please consider contacting Honda even if you don't presently have this problem with your individual Fit. In the meantime, I'm going to research how to go about raising this issue with the federal car safety guys and if this looks an attractive options, I'll pose some info.
In other words, let's not give up hope yet that Honda might fix the problem. As the saying goes about the squeaky wheel..... Thanks!

Update: since no accident has yet occured with my car, I was unable to file a complaint with the Highway Safety Transportation Board. They referred me to the Federal Trade Commission and I've filed a complaint with them. Link is below for others to file a complaint with the FTC:

My salesman just called me and I explained the misaligned bumper issue. He offered to take a look at it at my convenience and see if they can do something about it. I may try to give them one more chance.
I've already taken into the dealership and both times they say they can't do anything because other cars on the lot have the same issue.

My bumper was nice a tight when I got the car, but has begun to sag over the ensuing months. I had the dealer examine it, but they say there's nothing they can do about it.
Since then, because I hit a cat with the bumper after the dealer tried to repair it and failed, I'm sure I've lost any possible recourse under the warranty, as they'll just tell me I caused it.
Otherwise, I'd love to file a complaint.
