Reinforced Cargo Floor
Reinforced Cargo Floor
Has anyone else noticed that the trunk floor in our cars is not super tough? I only noticed because every week I have to load a 75+ lb sound board on wheels into my car, and now I have a definite crease in my floor. Has anyone tried to reinforce it, say with a sheet of metal or wood?
I've thought about doing that as well. I borrowed a gas powered pressure washer from my friend. It gouged one of the little panels that folds with the rear seats.
I thought about using plywood and pvc tubing into the spare tire that adds support. Cover it in felt, though it'd be hard to match the floor fabric.
The thin cover just pulls off easily. It's held on by clips near the rear seats.

The Fit is not a truck, though it might work like one. I don't think one of the design features was to load heavy 75 lb amps and sound boards. I'm going to build a plywood subfloor in order to dissipate pressure on any one spot. The carpet is cheap, the top surface of the cargo area is cheap, the "Fitruck" needs a little help.
I recently bought these:
They are nice. Maybe not as high quality as the dealership ones, but they're $25 for the entire set, so.... not complaining. You only really need to cut out a notch on the front driver's side mat for the dead pedal.
Note if you use plywood, you should put something between it and the floor to protect the car, like a tarp or garbage bag or whatever. Otherwise it'll splinter and rub all over the fabric.

I'd suggest getting a piece of plywood from HD/Lowes, cutting it to spec (if you don't have power tools at home, you can just bring in the specs and they'll cut it for you at HD), then buying a cheap rubber mat off of Amazon (10% the dealership price), and laying it on top of that plywood. Looks nice and will definitely protect the floor and spread out any concentrated weight. $25 solution.
