My sideview camera cut out again today, but restarting the car didn't get it working. I drove into town this morning, and it wasn't till after the fourth start that it began working. Sometimes it will give a black screen, and sometimes the rearview camera will turn on.
I called the local dealer, and he says he's never heard of the problem, which is very unlikely. He said I could bring it in, but I never know when the problem will appear. "It worked okay for us," is what I'd hear after leaving it all day.
I'll have to look back to last year and see if anyone has gotten a permanent solution.
Obvious question, but what about the connector inside the door skin? Maybe the pins are not seated correctly?
When it does not work, hold Power, Menu, & Eject, and choose the Self Diagnostic Mode. You can then verify if the camera is detected by the HU. If it is not, then there is a connector break somewhere.

If the camera fails to operate, BEFORE you shutoff the car, check the diagnostic menu and see if the camera is detected. thats pretty much a surefire way to seeing there is a connection break somewhere. If it is detecting the camera, then my money is still on a connector break, but it may be a signal wire rather than a power wire for the camera. The Diagnostic only detects if the camera is powered and communicating to the HU. If one of the video signal wires is funky then you would get a black screen or a screen that is off color possibly.
