Question Push(roll) start a car, good or bad?

The other day I forgot the keys in the car and then it did;t work. My neighborhood told me how to push star my car that it is pretty handy.

I live in a liste hill so I wonder if is ok to roll start a car every time or is bad? Any further explanation would be welcome.

I had a bug that broke a ring gear so the starter would not turn the engine. While I was waiting for time to fix it I started my car 3 to 4 times a day for like a month by rolling down hill..

It shouldnt hurt but its not particularly better than the starter.. Its just wear in a different way.

Apart from the difficulty of pushing the car, and the Fit is relatively light, it should not be too hard to bump start. However, how do you do this with the EX's push start button? For the traditional turn key start, this is not a problem. How to bump start an automatic/CVT I have no clue.

Sometimes push starting the car does not allow the car to do its full POST (power on self test) diagnostics, and you might get certain electrical things not working perfectly. These electrical issues go away once you start the car normally. This used to happen with my Nissan Altima, which I bump started on a regular basis, for fun and practice.

Push starting a car is yet another trick to not leave you stranded due to a starter/low battery problem. Starter motors take a lot of battery power. Push starting also works well for motorcycles.

Depends on the motorcycle. I used to push start my 550 Yamaha all the time. Push starting a 900 lb. Harley-Davidson isn't happening unless you have a couple of big friends.

With the Harley, you just have it trailered back to the Harley Boutique.

I have bump-started my 1000cc BMW R100RT, but with two 500cc pistons you have to have the engine in the right position to allow it to spin a bit before finding compression.

While modern MT cars can be bump started, push button start complicates things. Perhaps if it tries and fails it might fail in a push-startable state, but who knows? Another reason to buy an LX.

CVT or AT? Forget it. Call AAA. The last AT car I can recall being push-startable was my '66 Mercedes 200D, and that one required 15MPH to get the engine turning.

Sorry, I don't own a trailer, and there are very few "Harley Boutiques" that know anything about a 22 year old Harley anyway. A sad state of affairs, that.

I bump start on the move all the time, no problem.

One of my weekly errands has a few parking spaces on a slope and if conditions allow, I can roll on out and bump start later. No push button, no problem.

Although I haven't tried it, I don't see why I couldn't bump start the EX MT with push button starting. Pushing the button twice WITHOUT depressing the clutch pedal turns on the ignition without engaging the starter.

I'll have to try it, I guess.
