The manual calls for an oil change annually even if the maintenence minder has not come on. That's why mine was changed at one year and 4k miles.

Definitely always best to get a test once in awhile, but I have to disagree with the second part of your statement. Believing that manufacturers don't care about the car making it anywhere past the warranty when reliability is one of the primary concerns to most purchasers of a new car is rather naive...

I am wondering if anyone else experienced their first oil change timing (Oil Life showing 15%) with pretty high miles.

I'm guessing I'll be at around 8,000 or more when it gets to 15% and I'll likely get it changed before then. Just curious if this is a common happenstance.
We changed the oil for the first time @ 8,000ish. My Daughter was in town, and I did not know when she would be home again from school, so off to the dealer we went. Otherwise, I would have tried to wait for 10,000.

We just changed it again @ 14,500. We also rotated the tires at each oil change.
