After reading what you guys wrote, I think I paid too much for my Fit LX, no accessories. Sad.

The invoice + destination fee on a LX is $16987. Holdback is $332, so the dealer's actual cost is around $16,655.

Assume that they sold for no profit at all. States vary, but the use tax in California is 9% so that brings the price to 18153. Registration is about $250 which brings us to $18403. Various state disposal fees add another $75 to bring it to $18480.

So, if a dealer sells the car below $18480 OTD they are selling at a loss in California. This is illogical for Fits, which tend to sell within a couple of weeks of arrival. Add a reasonable $500 profit and the price comes up just short of $19,000.

So, I have to call into question those who are claiming that they bought a LX CVT for less than $18750 OTD in California. If they are claiming that, they're either the brother-in-law of a dealer or they are omitting some component of the OTD price.
I bought my FIT EX last year and MSRP was about 19.2 at that time. I was going to buy a LX and was only finding discounts of 500-1000 until one dealer sent me an email showing a few of their cars that were selling for 2k under MSRP.

I ended up paying $18.8 for my FIT EX in CA....so it can

I just got a quote for a 2016 EX of 19320 + 7% Tax of 1352.40 + Dealer Fee of 499.00 + DMV Fee of 160.00 OTD Price is 21,331.40 . Dealer will not budge one bit on the price, going to shop around at other local dealers this week. Not sure if anyone will work with me on price but i hope so or I'm going look at a used 2013 mo

after a ridiculous time negotiating, we got the fit for $17,500, which was $19,200 OTD for the Ex in blue (no options, thank goodness) in Costa Mesa, CA. The best buying experience. I thought I was going to literally walk from all other placed because of the ridiculous bait and switches, etc. We literally spent 45 minutes in the dealership. Financing was via credit union.

I don't know. I got mine for much less than that.

I paid $13,100 out the door tax title etc included for an EX-L. I traded in a 2009 Mustang GT Convertible MT with over 100k miles. I was willing to jump at 15k OTD after trade for an EX because the entire left side had been replaced on my Mustang causing the window to leak. The rear had been replaced causing the trunk to leak. The clutch was going. The radio was iffy, the AC would randomly switch to defrost. The antenna was broken off. The convertible roof was slowing down. The left seat made a horrible noise when you moved it.
I had purchased a civic touring there five days before and noticed after they listed the trade in on line they didn't include the options we added to it (which explains the difficulty getting what we wanted on the trade in). I brought my Mustang in for a trade in value during lunch and when they showed me the price I handed them a check and got out of there as quickly as possible.

Too much. I don't even want to think about it. I also fell for the extended warranty and extended maintenance. I think where I went wrong was in not getting a higher trade in for my beautiful 2009. I was in a "chute" of action and I just went boom! boom! boom! and drove away in a 2016EX. Every time I think of adding and subtracting and re-adding and re-subtracting i remind myself that IT'S NOT ABOUT THAT. It's about loving your car.

I just bought my 2016 EX CVT in Los Angeles county:

Sale price: 17695
"security etch" (predone by the dealer, couldn't remove it): 399
Sales tax: 1635.66
Doc processing: 80
Tire fee: 8.75
Registration: 249

Total OTD: 20067.41

I feel pretty proud of myself!
(and PM me if you're in LA county and want the dealer's name, they were really great and pain-free)

Looks like it's a real thing. Some states impose a tax or fee on new tires. In California it's $1.75 per tire.

Another reason not to ever live in California. That's just an automatic tax. It's not like cars get shipped without tires. I can see shops charging a disposal fee on tires, but come on tires come on cars. Imagine telling the dealership, "I'd like mine without tires please..."

It's a front end fee to cover the tire disposal/recycling later.
