It has always felt like the whole "Hecho en Mexico" stems around cultural stereotypes, plus a few bad apple cars that made everyone here nit-pick. Mexicans are lazy and take siestas and Japanese people work 30-hour work days honoring their families by building impeccable cars(sarcasm). Oh, and everyone that bought a Mexican Fit is driving a rattle trap that will lose the front bumper, the engine shield, chip, scratch, have MISALIGNED DASHBOARDS and ultimately rust apart through the rear wheel wells before your 3rd oil change.
This was HILARIOUS!

I couldn't agree with you more.

Nope. No stereotypes. Just a car with issues. It would have been nice to have a Japanese car that was made in Japan.

Agreed. I bought mine a couple of weeks ago and the Honda rep told me it was made in Japan and not Mexico. He used that as a selling point and was aware of the quality issues with the Mexico plant.

Place of Manufacture

I had my 2015 EX w/CVT in for the door handle recall yesterday at the dealership. They a 2016 LX on the floor so I went over to take a look while waiting for my ride. The floor model was made in Japan and the only difference I could find was that the left side dash piece fit a little better. Mine is not quite as tight and flush, but it is hardly noticeable. Overall, I couldn't tell ant real difference I'm my brief walk around.

My 2016 LX with manual transmission purchased late December 2015 is from Mexico. Every single one I saw in many dealers' online inventory listings is from Mexico, as was every single EX-L.

The only 2016 FITs I saw coming from Japan were EXs and LXs with CVT.

No, building a new model in a brand new plant an ocean away with new management and a significant language barrier is the issue. It's a perfect recipe for problems and I'm surprised that Honda did as well as they did with the '15s. Keep in mind that they had to keep a lot of cars back for rework which significantly hurt the new model launch.

Honda didn't build a plant in Mexico because of that nation's reputation for superior quality, did they?
