Has this happened to any of you? It's a loose fastener in the shotgun side front wheel well. It just twirls around if I screw it in. I lifted the hood to see if I could access from above but was stymied.
Looks like it's on the front (bumper) side, right? If so, you might be able to get behind it by removing the screw underneath the bumper cover and bending the flap you use to access the fog lamp bulbs (see the owner's manual-p. 375). Note that the hatch swings UP, not down like the book shows.
Most likely, it's a self tapping screw that's been stripped. You will probably have to replace it with the next larger size, or put a dab of RTV on it and screw it back in.
If you took it to the dealer, that's probably what they would do.
Thanks for the idea. I looked around inside the well and around it and couldn't find an access point. You gave me a good starting point.
There is something on to the end of the screw that won't allow me to back it out. I think it is a clip of some sort. I also think the purpose of the screw to attach the wheel well cover to the the body.

Again, thanks.
It might be one of those sheet metal "speed nut" or retaining clip type fasteners that has come loose from its intended mounting point.
