Sloppy work on the door handle recall
Sloppy work on the door handle recall
I had the two recalls done for my gently used '15 Fit and gave it an oil change. With 2,400 miles on it, it probably didn't need an oil change but it's been on the same oil for a year so I did it. The one recall was the software update for the CVT. The other was the door handles...
I roll the windows down a few days after getting the car back and notice this black sludge that came up from the windows stuck on the glass. It's either a grease or lubricant used for whatever the recall fixed.
Would any of you be pissy about this? They were either sloppy or too liberal in applying this stuff. I can easily wipe it off and keep testing to see if any residue comes back, but I don't think I should have to. I have an appointment to fix another defect tomorrow and have told them about this. I don't know if they would just wipe it off as well or take the doors apart and clean it up the right way. Any thoughts?

I've noticed something else when looking at my doors from the outside. Where the inside plastic panel meets the rubber molding, the door panels are not flush. There is a ripple/raised gap along the entire door where it's raised in some places and a bit flatter in other places. I'm going to go to the Honda dealership on lunch and take a look at any other Fits they have for a comparison.
I'll try to get some pictures uploaded.

Any time something is disassembled or lubricated there is a potential for screwups like this. It's not Honda, it's the inexperienced mechanics that dealerships hire cheaply. Any mechanic worth his salt will go independent, leaving dealerships with trade-school grads with little practical experience. They learn their trade working on your car!

All of Honda's dealers get the same recall information. They can keep learning their trade while re-working on my car.
Agreed they are representing the Honda brand. Which is why Honda sends out the service surveys asking about them and why they call to beg and plead with you to say nice things about them on the surveys. But they are not Honda. Having "the same recall information" is the least of the problem. It all comes down to the tech and the attitude in the shop--which tends to dictate which tech stay where.
Sadly, some dealerships have lower performance levels than others and different attitudes about getting this kinda "small stuff" correct, first time, every time. My experience is this is true with all brands. Some brands have a higher median performance. But the two in my experience about which I'd say this are M-B and BMW. Not Honda nor Ford.

another reason i dont take my car in for any service unless for warranty work.
The lady I've been working with (unfortunately) told me to bring it in today. When I got there the service manager was with her. I was thinking they're bringing out the big guns and I'm becoming "that guy".
I really wanted to park the car next to another Fit like I did the day before to show them the difference, but he looked at it and agreed. So I have an appointment in the morning.
On another note it was warmer today so I had the windows down. I noticed when on the turnpike for my commute more black grease on my window when rolled back up.
For the most part I've been passive aggressive not trying to be an asshole. Venting through the service scheduler when I don't get a voicemail returned and venting through the online survey. I'll probably let it rip tomorrow. Oh you guys cleaned up the grease/lube issue....bull shit!

1.) Its the dealership's fault, not Honda's. Dealerships are privately owned, while Honda will do its best to make them meet a certain standard, they can't keep an eye on the dealership 100% of the time.
This is why customer feedback to Honda can actually help.
2.) Being passive aggressive is.....not exactly not being the ahole either. Why not just be honest?

We'll agree to disagree on who's fault it is. Sideshow Bob Mechanic's doesn't represent Honda. This place does. When a different business model like Telsa is trying to do in the auto industry arises then you can say...well did you work directly with Honda or a Honda dealership? This is all we have...so this is Honda.
Me being honest would be calling this rep a liar to her face. Just say I have been too busy to check my voice mails. They don't just disappear!
With the Honda dealership being down the street from my job I don't want to burn all bridges with them. They are serviceable and ultimately did correct the issue. Like the one guy said...they hire a bunch of kids. I was able to snap two comical pictures. One where 3 of these kids were scratching their head over something on a Honda Pilot. When I was waiting to get the paperwork 4 employees in a tight circle were laughing about something on a phone instead of trying to help this one rep with me and the other customer that were just shuttled back to the store. Really poor.
I had a way worse experience at Honda in either Hermitage or Sharon PA when I was still thinking about buying a new Fit. Just the typical dealership sleaze.
Hopefully my feedback has helped as this rep seems to no longer have a voice mail option. Rings all day now.
I took the high road and thanked them instead telling them 3 times to get it right.
Tsk, tsk ... not Honda, but the service dept. of the dealership. Hold the right people responsible.
Door Handle Recall
Had mine in yesterday. Repair went OK (1-1/2 hours) but they dripped some of the corrosion treatment on the outside of two of the doors. This resulted in streaks in the clear coat. Have an appointment to go back next Monday to have them buff out the clear coat. Will let you know how that goes.
Took mine in today. No issues that I can see. I guess I just pray at the right church.
Plus they gave me a free oil change, and a free coffee drink that was more like a dessert, and they gave me a free car wash.
Looks like I came out ahead on the deal.
