Honda today expanded its recall of vehicles affected by the defective and potentially lethal Takata Airbag inflator to 2.23 million vehicles including an unknown number of 2009 to 2014 Honda Fits.

I have a 2016 Honda Fit manufactured in November at Yorii. Around Nov. 7th, Honda announced it would no longer use Takata as a supplier for its airbags for new models in development.

As my Fit was manufactured around that time, I'm not reassured. I've searched online and can't find information on who made the airbags in my Fit and all 2015/2016 Fits. Were they still installing Takata airbags in Fits during the past couple of years?

Whose airbags are in the 2015 and 2016 Honda Fits? And are they safe?

Weird, there is no 2014 Fit.

Model years went from 2013 to 2015 with the GK. Of course there were Fits made and sold in the US in 2014. So we're both right.

 

This article indicates but does not explicitly confirm that the Takata airbag inflater is NOT in the 2016 Honda Fit. The New York Times asked Honda if any new models had the inflater and Honda said three - the CR-V and two Acura models. But didn't mention the Fit.

The Honda press release by referring to 2014 Fits is apparently referring to the EV electric Fit.

 

I registered my 2016 FIT LX with the Honda Owner's site when I took delivery two months ago. Just signed in there and checked and no recalls whatsoever. I recall reading that Honda had stopped using Takata in 2015; just don't know the precise date.

 

Depends entirely on model. There are some 2016 Acura ILX's in the latest go round.

Our '07 CR-V was added in this go-round which already shows up as pending at owners.honda.com. This is probably a good sign, for now, for your Fit.
