There has to be a way to reinforce the fragile flooring of the cargo area. I feel like anything with weight will collapse it.
I was always super paranoid about tearing up the back of the seats or simply stretching the material. I've kept 3 cardboard boxes in the back, they're folded flat and pretty heavy duty to start with. I basically set everything on them. By having three of them I can orient them however needed. I have found the two layers of heavy cardboard to be more than enough to spread heavy loads.
I've also kept a heavy moving blanket in the back. It also helps spread the load of things like water softener salt, 3 or 4 cases of beer or soda.
I prefer the cardboard though. I probably had 10,000 loaded miles last year and have had no issues.
I decided to save pictures of the gear I load and sadly I don't have a loaded pic. I'm hopeful to improve my load-out this season and become more efficient.
We travel to around 15 locations each year for bicycle races. We're still fairly new at traveling for races that are more than local... We learn on every trip.
Our greatest challenge seems to be getting the cooler in a spot that lets the passenger reach it while I drive and not having to move it for access at the race. Then having the cycling gear accessible first since we often arrive at the race and visit the hotel later.
It's a long winded post... Sorry. This got me thinking about the project again.
I have a bag specific to the bike racing
She has a bag specific to the bike also
We have this system but we haven't utilized it yet. I'm hopeful to incorporate it this season and not have two additional backpacks that I don't have pictured
We carry a 65 liter Yeti cooler to save money and avoid eating out 5-6 times in a weekend. It's large to deal with though.
She always has a duffle bag for regular clothes
I've got the same duffle as her, always intended for regular street clothes.
We use the Saris Thelma 3 bike in the hitch
The trainer is the most awkward thing to store on the road. We have to have this for warming up before races but even folded it's annoying to put away.
Both bikes on the back of the car. This blocks the easy use of the hatch.... A lot happens through the side doors.
My bike on the back too. Also adding to the annoyance of blocking the hatch.
I've done the mounted tires thing, too, and probably the biggest single object was a new dishwasher (in the box) for my Dad's house. The girl at Lowe's raised an eyebrow when I told her we were taking it home in a compact-sized Honda… (c:
I've carried a 9 drawer dresser (okay, one block and it was sticking out), two wing back chairs, and various bits and pieces of furniture and big box purchases.
Certainly not a full load, but the easy ergonomics of loading and unloading this somewhat hefty (all metal) new yard toy from Home Depot spares damage to the hatch area, AND to my sometimes twitchy lower back.
Our washer finally died and went to (choose destination here) after twenty-three years, and we hauled its replacement in our Fit. Box slid right in. Stock boy was really surprised. (He had me measure the opening twice before he took it off the dolly!)
I am still amazed at how much stuff I can haul. When we have a big gig we carry 2 amps, 2 mike stands, a guitar stand and a mandolin stand if that's on the set list. There is a few cord bags, my harmonica case, brief case, a suit bag for stage outfits, a very awkward music and amp stand that wants to scratch anything it touches. .add a small cooler and odds and ends. .I think the biggest befit of the majic seats is to configure your load so it doesn't end up in your lap up front if you have to swerve or brake hard or need to carry a 3rd passenger with your cargo. I wish Honda would design in 4 or 5 more cargo hooks to secure heavy items like the amps ,now I try to use the seat belts. It's easier to get cargo into the Fit compared to my 2005 Crown Vic with it's big trunk and it gets almost twice the MPG's too! With the Fit I can carry everything I need 97% of the time. For a small 'sub' compact that can and will get 40 miles per gallon I wish I had bought one years ago.
We've fit two road bikes in the back of the Fit without removing any wheels. This avoids the expense of using a hitch, and if I wear my helmet while driving, getting hit in the head by the handlebars doesn't hurt too badly. WIN-WIN.

The LX comes with 2 cargo hooks at the rear corner of the hatch, with the option of adding 2 more at the front of the hatch, just aft of the rear seats, for a total of 4. Are you looking for 4 more cargo hooks, for a total of 8?
You could use the existing 4 and bungee your stuff down right tight.

I guess i was too scared to try and stuff the FIT with big stuff, and wound up getting a trailer instead to tow/haul stuff! I've moved a full sized fridge and new stove at once! Even bought a new John Deere Rider and picked that up with it! Heaviest was a bunch of cinder blocks and lumber for my wooden shed build!
Sure Trac 5x8 Trailer 02

MA811 installed with 40psi and ~130lb tongue weight on car.
I am terrible at taking pictures but so far I have hauled:
-tons of scrap wood on numerous occasions. The last two years i have been a project coordinator for a mill-work company. We build cabinet and casework for Einstein bagel, urban outfitters, potbelly sandwiches and about 15 others. there is always something cool i am taking home.
- New mountain and road bikes
-Various tools, compressors, folding table saws, chop saws and stands, laser levels.
-Various Cabinets - I like to refinish woodwork...in all my spare time...
I miss the sporty driving of my SI but i like the hauling capability a lot more...this thing has been great...though i have creased the headliner in several spots.
About 300 pounds of mastiff. This is one of the main reasons I bought the fit and it's great!
I just got the 2015 manual EX to haul my masstiff. Since she slips and slides in the cargo she rides in the back seat now which defeats the purpose of having a hatch. What do you put down on the cargo to prevent slip sliding? Do you have seat covers to protect from drool and fur?
Not the car I bought. This was the test drive car.

That's a big dog. She must eat a lot.
Tall mode, left side behind driver, should give her enough room, but not too much.
