DIY Diagnostics OBDII

I know that there are 100's of generic DTC readers on the market.
Being an owner "enthusiast" I prefer to go a little deeper than the ENG Check Light. Having a VW I bought VCDS which is a diagnostic application that gives the owner the nearly same features in the VW dealership shop and I liked having that level of data access.

So I did a lot of reading at what is available for my 2015 Fit.
I pulled the trigger on this:
New 2016 Honda HDS 3 017 012 ECU Rewrite Diagnostic Software for Acura Honda | eBay

I need a dongle to connect the laptop to the OBDII port.
I decided upon the Xhorse MVCI

I'll update when this arrives

Pardon my ignorance but will you be using this to rewrite code or use it for advanced monitoring?

Mainly for more detailed monitoring.
The generic code readers only read the engine control unit(ECU).
There are many controllers on new cars ie ABS, automatic trans, door locks, radio, ESP, seat belts & air bags ect. ... ect. Accessing these controllers requires a more robust diagnostic package.

As for re-flashing code I prefer MPPS.

A little while after I got my '02 GTI and I went to a meetup and a guy there misunderstood something I said and turned off the seat belt alarm with a VAG-COM. I was blown away that you could change something like that. I guess I didn't realize there was something similar for the Fit. I got an Ultra Gauge Blue last year, it does pretty deep dive but like you said it's all off the ECU.

Yes, if you drive a VW, Vag-Com is the tool to own.

When I get this Honda software up & running I'll let you know.
There are a few things I want to turn off auto-door locks, and that seat belt alarm has to go post-haste.

If it can do keys and TPMS sensors, I may be buying it, too. I've got both a 2013 FIT (with wheel mounted TPMS) and a 2016 FIT (RPM based TPMS). Both have keys that require expensive reprogramming if lost and replaced. It infuriates me to have to pay a dealer programming fees for something I could do myself if I had the right software.
