Two Rear Splash Pan Retainers

I hate those two retainers at the rear of the splash pan. I changed my oil just now, and they would not come out the way they are supposed to. The screws just turned and turned but did not loosen. I had to force the clips out, breaking them. Now the rear is held on with wire at both sides. Real classy.

Have any of you found a good substitute? Someone mentioned Dzus ("Zeus") clips, but I don't want to order a bunch of different sizes to get the one that fits. I found the clips below on Amazon. I wonder if they would work. I can get fifty for $8.99.

I just keep a few extra fasteners on hand for oil changes and replace them as needed at each oil change. They're cheap enough, and I have more important things to be concerned with.

Where did you get the fasteners? Dealer?

That's where I got mine.

Part number 91514-TG1-T01 costs around .50 each

You can usually pick them up the next day since they don't keep these in stock. Don't have them shipped to you unless you have no other choice. The shipping charges are ridiculous.

Right, the dealer. You could order them online, but the you'll pay more when you add in the shipping costs.

Definitely! Basic shipping costs from Bernardi $16.31. It's a 20 minute drive to the dealer.

There was a thread recently that pointed to eBay where you can buy a bag of a hundred for $6 or so. They're not OEM but who cares

Yeah, but even if you used two new ones for each oil change, that's 50 oil changes. Just how often do you change your oil?

Here's what I found on Amazon, but they're round, and I'm not sure about the size. I'll have to measure the ones I took off. The originals are square where they contact the splash pan.

Here, they call them splash shield rivets, and they're twice the price. You get only 25 for $8.99. They're not the kind in the rear of the shield.

And who cares at the price? The fasteners, like this car are disposable wear items.

Buy the bag, offer a few as karma giveaways and ask for a few postage stamps in return?

Neither of those are the right kind. The "square" base keeps the whole thing from turning when you are tightening/loosening the center screw.

The first one is just a push fastener, and it won't hold the pan in place.

I got half a dozen from the dealer, but they cost $0.93 each. I hope they hold up better than the originals. Maybe I'll epoxy the base onto the car.

What bugs me is that dealers don't seem to keep this part in stock, so, if you brought your car in for an oil change, and they broke a fastener, or found one damaged, what do you suppose they would do?

Right, they'd just stick it back in the hole and hope you'd never notice.

That's what surprised me since they are definitely prone to breaking, or cars might even come in with them broken or missing. On the last oil change I did, the screws just turned and turned, so I had to pry them out and break them. I used wire to attach the rear of the pan temporarily.

EDIT: If you go to buy them, bring the part number because the diagram the guy showed me was useless.

So I have a question, the cover was missing on my 07 fit ,,,so I bought one off eBay ,, when I put it on the first thing I noticed was, that you don't need to take it off for an oil change, you can reach the filter just fine. I've never seen the original does it block access to the filter? The one I got is from Taiwan but it fit really well and also has a square hole where the drain for the radiator is.. Here is a couple pick looking straight down for the top, there is a sheet of cardboard on the floor under the car thats the tan surface. Basically the panel has a relief from left to right that angles so you can grab the filter from the bottom.

I seldom removed the splash panel when I changed the oil on my 2007 Fit. Long skinny arms are a good thing for when you're tightening the filter. Very different than my 2016.
