Extremely High Fuel Consumption in China 29 MPG ! - Fit 2015 -CVT
Hi all,
I've been driving a fit 2015 with CVT in China for a while now and my fuel consumption is 29 Miles per gallon.
It is difficult to say which model I drive, because in China they have 5 different models, I own the top 4th model. It has a CVT, no SAT nav, no touch screen, no backup camera, no cruise control... Though it has a Sunroof, and 4 airbags, and magic seats. My fit has the same 1.5 L. engine as in the US.
I drive the car a lot, and I live in a 10 million people massive city, filled with potholes and traffic jams at every corner. And I average 29 miles per gallon.
The recommended fuel for my car is something called in China "92". I only use what is called "93", because I've never seen a pump selling "92", but they do have a more expensive fuel called "97" which I never bought.
When I drive in Highways, I average 41 miles per gallon.
In snow, I averaged 24 Miles per gallon (never got stuck )
Usual normal city driving 29 Miles per gallon.
Does anyone have a similar fuel consumption?
Thanks

Thanks for the feed back Uncle Gary, In Traffic where I live, we usually do 3 to 5 miles per hour for about half mile or even more sometimes. Basically traffic is rarely stuck, it's mostly a stop and go motion.

Hi TorontoBoy,
Yeah I use aircon a lot, the weather is always smoggy so at least the air filter keep some nasty particles away. So yeah, I believe that might be it.
I talked to a friend who drives a VW Touareg V6, and he averages 14 miles per gallon driving in the same conditions as I do. Of course his car is way bigger with a much more powerful engine, but I reckon that in my city, no one will average less than what I do.
I live in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province.

I have been to your city though it was about 15 years ago. If I am correct then you are way north west of Shanghai and way south of Bejing.
You mileage is slightly low but not all that bad for ht kind of local driiving you say you are doing.
Do not let people on this board confuse you with octane numbers. Octane is measured differently here in the US and Canada, than it is in China. Our numbers are 4 to 5 points lower. Just follow what they tell you to use in your owners manual.

I, too, have been to Zhengzhou and it is a dirty city, no doubt. On the opposite side of the mountain range from Shanxi, the coal province of China. I used Zhengzhou for convenient train access back to Beijing.
Zhengzhou Air Pollution: Real-time PM2.5 Air Quality Index (AQI)
For your breathing safety can you get a hepa filter for your Fit? With the hot weather, polluted air and slow/dangerous traffic I think you're doing about right for fuel mileage for your conditions.
You might improve your gas mileage with frequent replacement of your air filter, as Zhengzhou is pretty dusty. I do not know if Chinese automotive gas is particularly good. How are the roads in Zhengzhou? Outside the city can be pretty rough.

Are you saying that in China, they use miles and gallons rather than kilometers and liters? I would have thought kilometers and liters would be used. Or did you do the conversion to make things easy for United Staters?
