Android Auto on a 2015 LX?

Yes, this is likely a stupid question, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something. Are there replacement audio systems for this car? Can I buy a new system that supports Android Auto?

Yep. Aftermarket AA units start around $400. You might lose compatibility with some of your car's systems, tho - namely, the backup camera, dash clock, and steering wheel controls, depending on the model you choose.

Thanks, bargainguy. That's good to know. What's a decent source for getting one of these aftermarket units? Do they somehow fit into the space where the current screen is? I'm used to the old-school cassette and cd units that you swap in or out.

The rear camera would be a bummer to lose. I wonder if there isn't someone who could do some magic here.

If you know of a good source for researching and buying such a thing, let me know. Thanks.

Crutchfield.com is a wealth of info. Plug in your year & model car and you can select those that have AA. Crutchfield also provides some or all of the mounting hardware you need to install your unit or have it installed.

Sometimes the backup camera can be retained with the aftermarket unit, and sometimes you can get aftermarket steering wheel control interfaces that will make your steering wheel controls play nice with the head unit.

Now I researched this heavily myself when I got my '16 LX this year. After a lot of hang-wringing, I decided to keep the LX head unit and just update the speakers and get a separate GPS rather than go the AA route. Getting AA wasn't a huge priority for me; I was also looking at head units that mirror the smartphone with an HDMI cable. The thing that turned me away from that was cost. I probably would have spent a grand in an aftermarket head unit, mounting hardware, steering wheel controls, etc., and I decided in the end it just wasn't worth that outlay.

Thanks again. Yeah, after looking at those units, I'm thinking that I am fine with what I have for now. I don't think I could justify that kind of money right now. Maybe I can invest at some point when the Android Auto platform is more mature.
