Loud Pop When Backing Up and Turning
Loud Pop When Backing Up and Turning
Purchased a pre-owned fit with 17K miles and I've noticed that sometimes when backing out of my driveway (a few degrees downhill) and turning to align into the street I sometimes get a lout "Pop" noise from one of the front wheels. I've noticed it happens sometimes when backing out of other parking spaces that are slightly uphill. Any idea what this could be and if it's covered under Honda's warranty?
You may not be alone
My wife and I experienced a sound that could be described as "pops" when turning closely into and around the loading area at a motel. I went in for service shortly after, and asked them to check it out (or tell me what we were hearing) but they could neither identify or suggest a cause. I'm keeping an ear out, but so far have not heard it again. We also back out of a sloping driveway, so no similar experience there.
Could be sway bar end links. These are difficult to troubleshoot on Hondas because they can clunk or pop but have little or no end play or movement.
If you DIY, try shooting some grease into the rubber boots (using a needle attachment on a grease gun). I thought I was going to replace the links on my 2006 CR-V, but no noises for three years after I started injecting the grease.

Good point

I get them when backing up out of my garage almost every single day. I purposefully developed something called auditory ignorance to make me feel better. It never happens when I turn the wheels to the left. It only happens when I turn them to the right while backing out.
**Solution**
Took car to the dealer and they diagnosed that it was one of the front struts, it was replaced under warranty at 34K miles and the noise is gone. I'm now at 40K miles and it has not come back.
Hope this info helps someone.
