I was wiping the inside of the liftback after a car wash and noticed Rust on the brackets. All four were rusty.
I unbolted and saw it was affecting the paint underneath.
Polished off the rust stains and slathered on a layer of grease before reinstalling the bracket. I greased the bracket too since the paint seemed thin. I remember older Hondas having zinc coatings on some if their metal fixtures. Glad I caught this before it got worse. It could be here in Hawaii our cars get more salt exposure than stateside.
Inspect the rust closely for depth and signs of a previous paint job (overspray or mismatched color). If it's surface rust, sand it, apply rust treatment, and repaint. For deeper rust or signs of prior damage, consider professional help.
