The Extra Key: Found

She asked me an odd question, my daughter. Why did I have an extra Fit key in the right rear door cubby of our '16 Fit? Huh?

We've had our '16 Canadian Fit LX for just over a year now, and we use just a single key. The other, the spare, was locked in our safe. We received 2 identical keys from the dealer, given to us on delivery. I went back into the house, opened our safe and there was the spare key, as I had left it.

This key that she found looked exactly like the keys we received when we bought the car, but looked used. It has the Honda logo in chrome, rather than the original keys, which have no colour. I took the newly found key and it started the car. An hour later I used the key to do a short errand. The key is functional.

We rarely have passengers, and the rear seats are usually down. I've never paid much attention to the rear passenger doors and had never looked in the door cubbies.

So now we have three.

That must be the "bonus key".

have you ever had any interior work/warranty done by the dealer ?

maybe that key starts and runs every honda fit in Canada lol!
but it would be interesting to see if it works in another car.

I've not done any interior or warranty work on the car. If I get the chance I'll try it on another '16 Fit, but there's no one in the area with an LX/DX.

That is truly weird. The key fairy must have visited!

when we bought our 2008 Fit in 2009, the dealer only had the one key so part of the deal was for them to order/program me a spare. After having the car for a couple weeks, I went to vacuum out the car and found the other brand new key with the plastic cover under the driver's seat. No idea how it got there but having two spares is kind of nice.

Salespeople are notorious for losing keys.

It was probably lost, the service department made more, now you have found the lost key. Bonus for you!

I was just thinking... It's kind of amazing that it is actually for the car you have, not for some other car that was on the sales lot at the same time LOL (yeah, it happens)

I would have not minded finding an extra transponder for my 15 EX given what those cost if you lose one......

I'd start by checking other Fits at the dealership!

Just bought our Fit last weekend. It came with 3 keys, one of which was brand new with plastic. Wonder if something similar happened to me - got bought into the dealer (used) with a single key, they cut a new one but then found the lost one. Ha. As said earlier, it's for my wife and I to each have one on our key ring and still have a spare in the safe.

And the third key will be a good luck charm, of sorts.....since you have it as a backup, you'll likely never need it. If you only had one key, chances are it'd be lost/misplaced at some point, and you'd really want that spare or second spare...just my experience.
