LaneWatch Update
LaneWatch Update
The LaneWatch camera has malfunctioned 41 times since I bought the car on July 28, 2014. My latest action was to write a letter to American Honda, detailing the failings and my visits to the dealer. The dealer has always said that I have to bring it to them when it is not working. The first such time, a mechanic verified the failure but said they couldn't work on it then. The next time it failed, the tech worked on it, and said it was working fine for her. I had left the car running in their lot, and she drove it inside. Unless she had turned it off and restarted it, it would not have started working, although she denied restarting.
The switch works, the display works, and the camera works. The only thing that is not working is the electronic device that turns it on, but they will do nothing unless they see and diagnose the problem.
I just received a call from American Honda saying that I have to bring it to the dealer when it is malfunctioning, something I have done twice before. To bring it to the dealer, the camera must be malfunctioning, I must be in the area, and the dealer must be open. Then I have to leave it running in his lot and hope that he can get to it before the gas tank runs dry. It seems that the dealer, rather than American Honda is calling the shots.
Very annoying.

Good idea, but I'm not that aggressive. : )
Good suggestion. I just did a search for LaneWatch and found mine and several others. I'll do that with my next post. Is there a way to combine my previous LW posts into one?
When I post again, I'll search for my previous post and add to that. Basically, they don't really care.
I think I'll have some "Lemon!" signs prinetd and park by the Honda dealer. : )

While I was in town yesterday morning, the camera failed, so I drove to the dealer and left it running in his lot. A tech brought it in and saw that it wasn't working. After a few minutes, the service manager said they were very busy and asked me to come back in the afternoon.
This time, the camera was working fine, and they had always said that they couldn't do anything if it was working. Apparently, that wasn't true. The tech said he found a code indicating a bad camera, so he replaced it. Time will tell if this is a permanent cure.

It failed again this morning, even though Honda replaced the camera a few days ago. I brought t to them, and they said I would have to make an appointment so they could go through it in detail. They've always said that they can't do anything if it isn't malfunctioning, as I've brought it to them four times now when it wasn't working. Anyway, I'll get a loaner car, and they'll have all day to figure it out.
From what I can see, the switch works, the display works, and the camera works. I believe the problems lies with the electronics that tell the camera to turn on.

I left the car with Honda yesterday, and they called at 3:30, telling me that they had to replace the radio. First, however, I would have to remove all the "aftermarket wiring." So, this weekend, I'll have to see what I can remove for the dashcam, GPS, and XM radio. I hope that's enough because I also added three toggle switches, under-dash lights, and three power outlets. All of the extra wiring is run straight from the battery to a couple of circuit breaker panels, so there's no interference with the car's original wiring.
A couple of years ago, some people posted here that after replacing the head unit, their LaneWatch cameras worked fine. I told Honda about that at the time, but they said they would have to diagnose it themselves. That took them over two years.

I brought my car to the Dealer at 9:00 and picked it up at 3:45 with a new "audio unit." As I headed home, I saw that the display showed some kind of diagnostic screen. I pushed on a few icons, but it wouldn't clear. Traffic was heavy, so it was a while before I could pull over and phone the dealer. They said I had to bring it in so they could enter the radio code. You have to wonder why the tech would leave it in that non-working mode. You'd think she would have wanted to test it to make sure it worked.
I was expecting a happy ending, but this forty minute delay put a damper on it. Also, the service writer said that future warranty claims might be disallowed because of all the extra wiring they found behind the dash. As I had told them earlier, that was all disconnected, and even when it was connected, it drew power directly from the battery and then to a separate breaker panel.
So far, the LaneWatch works, but I have to set the clock, pair my phone, and set the stations. It's been a long two and a half years getting this repaired, so I hope it's permanent.

OLD hondas you have to enter a code, There is no code to enter on a 2015 fit. I drained the battery the other day (my fault) the radio connected by itsself (you have to press and hold the power button) Hope your troubles are over.
So far, the LW is still working.
