LaneWatch Update

Two weeks after I bought my Fit last July, the LaneWatch camera cut out. This has happened twenty-one times now. Unless I can get the car to the dealer when it is not working, they can't (or won't) do anything. They want me to bring it to them when it happens and leave the engine running.

Going into town yesterday afternoon, I saw that my LaneWatch camera wasn't working, so I turned around and drove to the Honda dealer. Unfortunately, they had no loaner cars available, and they wouldn't be able to get to it for hours - with my car running in their lot. So, I have to hope that it malfunctions around 7:30 AM on a weekday when I am in the area. I also have to hope that they have a loaner car available.

There are basically two components involved here: the head unit and the camera. I doubt that the camera is the problem, and some members here have had the problem solved by replacing the head unit. On the plus side, Honda has said that this will still be covered after the warranty expires. That's what they said, but let's see what happens when I try to get it fixed in three years.

What they "said" needs to be in writing. Is it?

Of course not. No one is going to put anything in writing. I could make a video of the service advisor saying that, but, "Oh, that's not Honda of America. That was just an individual." Both the dealer and a Honda rep online said I would be covered till it's repaired. I probably still have that email. There's no way I could win a fight against Honda. Either they repair it, or they don't.

Make a video with a date and time stamp. This should be good enough for the dealer otherwise post it to Youtube for everyone to see.

You mean a video of the service manager agreeing to honor the warranty after it expires? Yeah, that will go over well.

I did make a video of the camera malfunctioning, but that irrelevant.

I'm no expert, but I think a documented intermittent fault is covered after the warrentee expires. Have them write you a service ticket next time you take it in. That will be your documentation.

They said that since I began the process under the warranty, it would be covered.

That's sometimes sufficient documentation, at least it verifies the complaint.

I've used customer supplied videos to get intermittent problems diagnosed and/or warranty repairs approved.

Try a different dealership....?

Yes, that's a technical term used by dealer service centers.
