Front bumper hole

I can't find info on this in the manual or in this forum. The front bumper has a hole on the passenger side of the front bumper. You can pry out the plastic cover. Once it is out there's another metal hole. Is something supposed to fit in it that allows the car to be pulled if needed?

The way it's positioned, it's very hard to make use of any straps to fasten to it so that's why I guess something is supposed to attach in it and extend out. Or maybe it's not meant to be pulled on at all. What in the world is it for, just installing and removing the bumper?

Sorry for the silly question but dang, I tried to get the answer but can't find any.

In the owner's manual, either on cd or in book form, it's for the tow hook.

or use it as a plate holder so you dont need to drill holes.

There’s a tow hook in the tool kit.

Thanks, everyone! I'll have to look at the tools that came with it.

Yup....I remember when I first got the car and discovered this piece, and was like 'WTF is this ???!!!???" Seems as though it should be in the center of the bumper, to me, but....what do I know? LOL

The rear “tow hook” is a welded loop under the rear bumper at the center of the car.

This I did know...used it to jack the car onto jackstands to install the RSB and the Tanabe ... dunno if that's kosher, but, it survived...and not likely I'll tow from it

it’s not for you to tow something with, it’s to tow your Fit out of a snow bank or ditch.

I believe it's there because it is the strongest area, where the bumper is attached to the unibody.

The rear tow hook is the first thing to hit those higher concrete barriers in parking lots if I get too close. It sounds ugly, but so far it's still in place... unharmed.

Not sure if anyone would dare to drive around with the front tow hook installed. It would look badass. It would be 1st mod towards a mad max escapade.

I used the front tow hook once. I carry my kayak on the roof and secured my boat's bow line to the vehicle with that hook. The stern line is attached to the rear tow hook.

Decided it was simpler to use hood loop straps as the front tow hook protrudes and can leave a nasty bruise if you walk into it.

There are plenty of people that do that with pretty much any car...

And it doesn't look badass to me. It looks like someone got themselves stuck cause they couldn't drive and forgot to take the tow hook off once they got pulled free. Or worse, they need it there exactly because they can't drive and get stuck often.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Used it once. Towed my daughter's 11 Fit home (about 40 miles) after she hit a deer at 55 mph. The radiator was smashed or she could have driven it. The insurance company ended up totaling it.

I kept the hook and a few other things before the insurance company picked up the car. Floor mats and cargo mat anyone?

You got me cracking with laughter!
My first thought was that someone is autocrossing/racetracking too often so they keep the hook at the ready. But the plausibility of a bad driver .... reminds me of my sister.

I don’t get how people hit car stops with the Fit. It’s so short there’s no reason to pull the car that close to the curb.
