what to do with the key fob during watersports

My other cars have simple metal keys that can get wet. The Fit fob shouldn't get wet and I can't leave it in the car and still lock it. What works for you?

Assuming you're talking about the keyless/push-button start fob...

Take the key out of the fob and take that with you.

Wrap the fob in tinfoil and hide and lock it in the car using the key.

Use the key to lock and unlock the car as needed.

This is official procedure from most manufacturers.

Mine isn't the keyless kind. I wrap the key in soft foam, ziploc it in 2 bags then stuff it in the back of my wetsuit. Not really comfortable, but I got used to it. Never had any water get in.

I discovered this problem, and a solution, a couple months ago.

Just take the metal key out of the fob. Leave the fob in the car somewhere hidden(center console, for instance). And lock the doors with the metal key in the keyslot of the front door.

All doors will lock. The car will not be able to be unlocked without the metal key turning inside the keyslot.

Take metal key with you as you would any other metal key.

No need to wrap in foil, or do anything else to the fob. Locking the doors with the physical key forces the car to ignore the fob until unlocked with the physical key again.
