More Ethanol

More Ethanol
Under a new proposal, E15 - gas with 15% ethanol - could be sold year round. It can't currently be sold in the summer because it increases air pollution. This change would be good for corn farmers, but bad for corn buyers, drivers, and anyone who breathes.

E85 is good for so many reasons.
The flip side is that mixes under that ratio are BAD for every reason possible.
There should literally only be two ratios of ethanol offered. 0% and 85%. Anything else is bad for environmental reasons, economic reasons, and vehicle reasons.

Unfortunately the issue of ethanol is so tightly tied to the desire to support the demand/price for corn which it's made from for purely political reasons. Happy corn farmers means happy voters. The environment? Oh yeah, that too. From once being a supporter of ethanol I think now I'd like to see all laws involving ethanol just done away with. Let the consumer/market freely decide if they want to use it.

I just enjoy driving my Fit without the concern of ethanol mixed in with the gas. There will always have winners and losers, good for one, bad of another. Anyone else?

I'd prefer to not have any alcohol in my gas, but there's only one station in my vicinity that sells 100% gasoline, and it's not a "top tier" station, so to speak. I have no idea where their gas is sourced...and their prices on ethanol blends are somehow fairly more inexpensive than every other station around.

No argument there. We use the actual corn to make ethanol. I think it's Brazil that eats the corn and uses the waste to make ethanol.
