If true (and it may well be), then the old opinion about not letting your gas tank hit empty all the time, assuming condensation was the reason for that theory, may have been made obsolete with the addition of ethanol to gasoline.

I am way out of my comfort zone here and am hoping for clarification from GeorgeL soon!

It will absorb condensation, but if you get a big gout of water in the tank it will go to the bottom and not be absorbed since it is denser than the fuel.

Diesel fuel isn't generally adulterated by ethanol in the US, and the pump corrosion noted was on a diesel lawn mower. Not much like a Fit!

I run all my cars at least 20 miles after the fuel gauge 'runs out of fuel'. Never had fuel pump issues on the 50k miles I put on my 2012 civic, nor on the 25k miles I put on my corolla, nor on my 22k miles I put on my lovely 2015 fit. Life is good! P.S. I only ran out of gas once all these years.
