HandsFreeLink Text messages show number instead of name, Working as intended?

So I recently purchased the 2015 Fit EX (10/13) and I noticed that when I receive texts it'll show the phone number rather than the contact name.
I have a Galaxy S5. When I paired the two, I hit accept for whatever permissions came up on the phone. The phonebook is populated with the names so I'm kinda stumped as to why I don't see them when I get texts.

Is this "working as intended" or did I miss something?

I've noticed my connection to my phone can be hit or miss. Sometimes when I look at my recent call list, it doesn't show names, just numbers. If I disconnect and reconnect, it'll show again.

There was a post on this topic somewhere - I recall someone mentioning that it may have been a Verizon issue and having the +1 in front of the phone number... But don't quote me on that...

I was actually thinking that too about the +1. But I'm also wondering if it's b.c I use a different sms app other than stock. Or maybe it doesn't like androids. But I also came across this today while researching.

"The HandsFreeLink system will match the phone number from the received text message to the imported phonebook and display the corresponding contact name. If no match can be made, only the phone number will be displayed. "

I'm gonna play with it some more today.

Did you enable the MAP setting when you paired you're phone?
If you didn't heres what I did:
From the Honda link, go to Home>Settings>phone> "text/email" tab> then "select account"> on my screen it showed "text message"(don't know if it'll show something different for you). When I selected that, I got a prompt on my phone asking me to allow it MAP access and I checked "don't ask again"

The other thing I'm thinking is that the HU doesn't like hangouts or newer versions of the email/gmail apps.

Success!!

So I messed around with it again and had a friend text me and I also texted my self. I edited the numbers in the contacts this way "+1555-123-4567". all I did was add the +1 before the area code, I then restarted the car and restarted the phone for good measure so the phonebook synced properly. And now the texts I already had have their names displayed.

Emails I never got working but I also wasn't concerned about that. I just didn't want to have to guess who was texting me while I was driving.

Do you need the HDMI connection for the Text feature to work? I am assuming that it doesnt work via Bluetooth.

Do you need to import your phone book for it to work? The instructions from Honda are incredibly thin. I dont want to have everything from my phone sync with the car every time I get in the car. But I would like to see who is texting or calling when the message comes up while driving.

Yea you have to import your phonebook, the car looks for the number in the phonebook that called or texted you. It will ask you if you want to import the phonebook the first time you pair it, but after that I think it automatically syncs on its own every time you start the car with the bluetooth connected to your phone.

I guess something else is preventing this from working for me. I don't get a name or number when people text me. Just the option to ignore/read. I confirmed that the names are in the system and have +1 on the numbers.
