XM Radio poor sound quaility?

So I removed the radio and hooked up the (XM) radio via this thing, the problem is the sound quality is awful. It's not bad when the car is off, but when it's started I hear a lot of interference. For example, when I accelerate, I can hear a whine in the radio when I press the gas pedal. What should I do at this point? Remove the radio again and hook it op some other way? I have a base 2008 so no aux jack

So there's something wrong with the unit I bought?

Does anyone have any experience with the quality of sound you get with this?

XM only uses 24-64 kbps HE-AAC compressed audio. The SQ is terrible regardless, most people don't like it. Just google XM sound quality.

Well I had xm in my last car and it wasn't great but it was alright. Now it sounds like an AM station.
